I'm a bit confused, if they'd be completely changing the game (as they should), how would it be a re-make? Why not just make a new game?

They would not be completely changing the game.
Apparently they feel some fans would be sad or something if they changed it too much to make it "as it should have been."

From that old FB message I believe they mean that the original SS2 will be on Steam for those who like it, but the new SS2 will be completely redone in the vibes of SS1 and SS3. And I'm 0k with that.

I am totally okay with that. A Serious Sam 2 in the style of Serious Sam 1 and 3? Holy crap.

Serious Sam 2 on Steam is a must.

However, SS2 is overall so "ridiculous"(I still love it) that I don't believe it is even possible to make a SS1/SS3 type game out of it.

The plot, the settings, enemies, weapons, NPC... everything is just too silly. Everything would have to be changed(maybe not kleer planet) to please SS2 haters like Brute. The end result would be a completely new Serious Sam game, and not a Serious Sam 2 remake/reboot/whatever.

Just add a load of classic enemies, bigger guns, and better storyline - Blam! Got a Sam game!
Maybe not that easy but you get what I'm saying.
Also, if they do go through with a re-release of Sam 2, please make Ellenier a more real-life-like world, rather than a fantasy land. It just doesn't fit in. Everything else is just fantastic!

Now that I think about it, I'd appreciate a Sam 2 remake in the 3.5 Engine just for the textures. They'd be helpful for new maps that don't want to follow a desert theme.

I just hope they call it Serious Sam 2 HD and don't change the base game anyhow. Maybe add better SE 3.5 graphics, remove the invisible walls and add better weapon sounds but that's it. Too much work to change everything else, especially when the plot and stuff doesn't make any sense to begin with.

The story actually kinda does makes sense, and as I said in another thread, I think SS2 can be made into a game that's like SS1.

Again, original SS2 being on Steam is basically confirmed.

Remaking SS2 from the ground up is not, but I support the very idea much. Hell, even I have a shitload of ideas how the game could retain its locations, its color, and maybe even humor but still being more serious.

Where has Croteam stated that it will be put on Steam? I'd like to see this information.

This is the full FB post:

"Regarding Serious Sam 2 on Steam, our current plan is to basically recompile the game, so we can then add Steamworks for online play.
That way we will have all Croteam developed Sam PC games available online at one place.

We were thinking on doing a HD + total remake, but we will leave that for the future plans.
There is a lot we would like to change in gameplay, visuals etc. to make it like it should have been (that's why it is reffered to as total remake), unlike HDs where gameplay sticked to the originals. But, we decided to keep it in original, as, contrary to general thinking, looking at feedbacks we received over years, quite a few people like it as is now and we would dissapoint them.

We still need to do business talks with Valve and Devolver, but really don't expect roadblocks there.

Plan is to start all that after BFE is released."

And how would that be a bad thing? I'm all gung-ho for a brand new Sam game!
After playing HD and some of BFE, I know Croteam's one of the few FPS developers who still knows what they're doing.

I'm fine with that. Honestly if all that stays the same is some semblance of the name, I'm all game for re-writing the Sam canon post-Second Encounter.

eh, even if they only replaced the cartoony textures that would be a huge improvement. I mean look at how good the enemies look in SS3. I suspect they probably have more than 1/2 of what they need. No doubt it would be a lot of work, but it would probably be a year to release and not the 5 years for a new game.

I'm still more for an SS4 than an SS2 HD. I mean, I'd love to see a remake of SS2 done right, but with all of the new additions, I'd also just like to see new levels as well. Why not?

Well, if they kinda completely re-did SS2, it would pretty much be SS4, except that it would replace the canon SS2 with something cooler.

SS2's story was incredibly poor, and I would appreciate an updated one if that's what they're offerring. For example, the medallions having like 100 copies of each other? Wtf

When Croteam releases SS2 on Steam, does anyone care to see a SS:SE DLC Weapons and Enemy pack. Where they give the player a choice in the mean menu to choose between the SS:SE weapons and enemas or the SS2 ones?

Why it's called a "Total" remake...

They have already said we will get the original SS2 recompiled with achievements and such sometime after SS3 launches. I'm assuming that includes the consoles so probably next year.

After that though I wouldn't mind SS4 being a totally re-imagined SS2. From there for SS5 we could move on to those planets that were envisioned originally for the first game.

I think a SS3-style remake of SS2 would be great. It'd give them a chance to balance out the gameplay (no more Double Shotgun completely dominating the game) and hopefully remove the dumber things like weapon stripping. If they got rid of the cutscened, it'd be even better.

I think the biggest problem, the NPCs, would be easy to handle. The guy that did the SS3 monsters have made pleanty of strange and neat-looking humanoid creatures for comics. If he works with them again, I could easily see characters like the Chinese and blue-skined guys replaced with things like this and this.

God, yes! Please remake SS2 completely ^^

And make it fit with SS:SE canon. I mean, don't just let Sam suddenly appear before the Sirian bigshots (and for God's sake, make them look "siriusly" cool like in BFE), but actually make Sam arrive somewhere in the rocket he left in.

So:

- fits the SS1/BFE canon
- no ridiculous/overly cartoony NPC's
- don't make the story *too* silly. BFE was perfect.
- no invisible walls. those things were everywhere in SS2 in the worst places...
- don't make Mental into a darth vader copy
- Sirius. Please do this right. Sirius belongs to the Sirians, NOT Mental, and should probably be a modern planet (with tech that looks like the tech found in Egypt in BFE) with the scars of their (lost) war against Mental.

Actually I think Sirius looks like the most as how it was originally intended. At least from the first version map list, Sirius levels should have taken place in a Sky City, so I guess it kinda fits.

We don't know whether Mental likes it or not. Why does Mental have to do it for fun? Maybe IT does it for some other purpose?
