Talking Iron Maiden

I'm going to an Iron Maiden concert this Sunday This will be the first concert of them I'll ever go to, and I'm very excited about it. It is a music-festival called bospop, and apart from Iron Maiden, I'll get to see bands like Within Temptation, Masterplan and Dragonforce.

I'll post my experiences next Monday probably, and I hope to get some pictures.

within temptation is at every festival, even if they were good I'd be bored with them right now ... The other 2 I consider minor but maiden is a can't miss, saw them again this year (3d time) at graspop ... they're on their "eddy rips up europe" tour, little hint revisit their first 4 albums as they're gonna play mostly numbers from those albums and it always rocks to be able to shout along.

Hehe.. don't worry. I'm able to sing 75% of all their songs, completely from my memory

I'm going to listen quite some Iron Maiden music tomorrow to "get in the mood"

Good lord, I had no idea they were still around. I first saw Iron Maiden in 1985, with Molly Hatchet and Whitesnake opening. I'm pretty sure it was right after Powerslave was released. Far and away the best show I had ever seen.

Well, as you all can see, I survived the festival

It was a very nice day, including very warm weather. We left from Heiloo by train(Nort-West of Holland) at 8:30 AM to Utrecht (Center of Holland) and from Utrecht we continued by car to Weert (where the festival was, South-East of Holland).

Action in DC
This is the first band we've seen that day, and it was really good! Action in DC is the number one AC/DC tribute band of Europe, and they could play/sing almost exactly like AC/DC itself! They played songs like Whole Lotta Rosie, Thunderstruck, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheep and For Those About to Rock.

Dragon Force
After having laid on the grass for a while, we went to Dragon Force. It is a band which was formed in 1999, under the name Dragon Heart. They changed the name to prevent confusion with other names and/or movies with the same name. They have some really good music, but unfortunately the amplification was reeeaaallly crappy. This pretty much screwd it up, because we could hardly hear the guitars. Shame

Within Tempation
I'm pretty sure you know this gothic band. They played pretty well, although the first 5 songs they played were pretty crappy, imho. After that, however, they started playing classic songs like Mother Earth, Deceiver of Fools and at last Ice Queen. Those last few songs made up for it, really good!

IRON MAIDEN
I'm sure there's no need to tell you this was absolutely ****ing terribly amazing! Simply mindblowing! As The Friendly Newbie already said, they played only songs from their first four albums, which are Iron Maiden, Killer, The Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind. Bruce was in really good shape as well as the other band members, of course. I think there's only one negative thing I can say about this, and that's that they were already finished after 1˝ hours

I'm sure that the experience was worth it, although I'm with ICB on this one, as far as not having known they were still around. I saw them in the mid-80's when they had Twisted Sister opening up for them back in the days when general admission concerts were still considered a reasonably safe thing to do (not!). In all fairness though, there was really only one point where I was in any danger of getting trampled to death. The rest of the time was spent being jammed inbetween people so tightly that there was nowhere to go.

Hey Spoon, did Eddie put in an appearance? The first show I saw had an 8ft Eddie run on stage in a straightjacket -- complete with staples holding the top of his head on. That was during "Piece of Mind."

Yup. I think it was the same eddie they used at Rock In Rio. But I can't remember at which song he appeared.

Iron Maiden is next on my to-do list of heavy metal bands to see live...already saw Judas Priest, that was an awesome show.
