Default Serious Sam II Officially Announced

http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/boa...threadid=56325

Quote:
New York, NY – April 20, 2005 – 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), today announced Serious Sam II, the much-anticipated return of Sam “Serious” Stone to PC and the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft.

“Gamers have been anxiously anticipating a full sequel ever since Serious Sam: The Second Encounter was released back in 2002,” said Christoph Hartmann, Senior Vice President of Publishing for 2K Games. “The frantic action and lighthearted humor of Serious Sam really struck a chord with gamers worldwide, and with a brand new engine and greatly expanded gameplay, we think fans will agree that the return of Sam has been well worth the wait.”

“Our second generation Serious Engine allows us to create characters with over 100 times more detail than the last game,” added Roman Ribaric, CEO of Croteam Ltd, developers of Serious Sam II. “This has allowed us to create huge, lush environments and even crazier enemies than before, without having to scale back the gameplay in any way. Gamers can rest assured that with the capabilities of our new engine, we’re not only going to match the record we set with the first Serious Sam for the most enemies on screen at one time, we’re going to surpass it.”

Serious Sam II will be released for PC and Xbox in fall 2005, and will be showcased at 2K Games’ booth at this year’s E3 Expo. Look for the first details on the game in the June issue of Computer Games Magazine, featuring Serious Sam II as the cover story, on newsstands in early May.

I saw that this morning. It makes me very happy. Can't wait for some more serious coop play.

even though my main coop buddy and one of my best friends for the last 27 years killed himself a couple of weeks ago

Hmm, we're almost having a live converstaion here. Anyways, I think this release date is far more realistic than the other three that they've hinted at on their site, because they are appearing at E3 and seem to have plenty of work to show us.

What's so great about being told we have another 6-8 months before the game is released?

The fact that they're at E3 means they've got something to show there. I can wait another 6 months.

Yes, if they can't make a whole new graphics engine from scratch, together with 30 levels and state-of-the-art physics engine and code it all in 3 months, we should send in the ninja squad.

OMG doublepost ban!!!111one

Where do you guys get this three months crap? You know it's been a year and a half since the videos of Serious Sam 2 were released. I mean, come on, we have been waiting forever.

Doom 3 ~ 4 years
Half Life 2 ~ 5 years (I think)
Sam 2 ~ 2.5 years (for now)

It really won't kill you to wait another 6 months, you know. Patience, young one.

even 2 years for a game is not nearly as much you would think. You need this amount of time only to develope an engine, then you can work on game, which takes another year or 3. As far as I know, Doom 3 and Half life 2 were a couple of years in making, and they have big teams, and I think Croteam still isn't that big.
So, I say give them time.

It really hasn't been that long, considering they made their own engine.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the video that was released wasn't actually of the game either. While some things may be seen in the game, it was a video showing off the (at the time) thus-far developed capabilities of Serious Engine 2. So it's not like they've been sitting on a game that was already developed. Like Zocky said, it takes quite some time to completely develope a brand new engine, let alone developing a game from there, as was done in SS2's case. While it may feel like a long time, it really hasn't been that long to wait for an excellent product.

IMO, they really have outdone themselves with producing what will hopefully be a stellar new engine, along with what shoudl be an excellent game (as their history has proven), in the amount of time it has taken them to do so.

That's right Murtle, the GDC video was a tech demo for the new engine to show off some vehicle capabilities, new enemies, physics, and the lush environments the new engine can create. Its quite possible that a valley like the one in the video will never actually appear in the real game. However, its just as likely they will use parts of that valley, since they went through the trouble of building it. Either way, at that point, they probably didn't have any levels constructed, so I'm sure they have been working as hard as possible since that video was released a year ago.

considering this is a site for SS fanboys, (and girls), including me, i doubt anyone is gonna complain about waiting another year to see the game. ( i say year, so i dont get my hopes up and get let down when it dosent come out in 6 months.)

That's the cover of next month's issue, which hasn't come out yet. We'll post details and screenshots when it does.

you forgot to add DukeNukem(taking)Forever to your list of dev times...

Oh and I think with the recently announcement of Prey's return, that could go on the list too...

And who could forget Daikatana

Heh, I don't think "Cancelled" is an accepted development time, and it will never apply to SS2.

I wonder if it'll cost $20 like the last two SS titles? Not that I'm complaining about the price. I'd happily pay $40-$50 for SS2.
