Default So recently, CT answered a few SS2 questions

Too bad I didn't ask anything significant. Also, I accidentally asked two of the same questions. Argh.

Green = Me
Red = Croteam

Okay, let's try and answer some of your questions, though there may not be answers set in stone for all of them...

1) I hear there was going to be The Last Encounter. If it's true, how would it be like?

The next installment will be SS4, so there won't be Last encounter for now.

2) Is TSE just a non-canon mission pack or part of the story? It may be more fun than TFE, but made less sense than it too. For one, I feel that blowing up the Spaceship I worked so hard to get in TFE by some stupid crates is just disgusting. How would SS2 start anyway? The rocket at the end, after playing hard through 12 epic levels, is made obsolete since the Sirians teleported Sam right into their base.

TSE and TFE were both supposed to be Serious Sam 1 (twice bigger game), but they ended up split in two, so TSE is just a continuation of TFE. As for the story, things that we never planned can just happen, just like blowing up the spaceship with crates. Don't get stressed too much over it, we are known for bizzare humor

3) Why is SS2 the way it is? I remember in the trailer, there was two Ugh-Zans at the last level. What happened to that? Why all the weird slightly racist natives? Why the Medallion "joke" at the end? Why did we not get to fight Mental? Was Mental Institution just a last-second made boss? Remember about the promise in TSE "TO BE CONCLUDED..."?

SS2 is actually the game we had very much fun making, although it featured different art style. It's just funny and we like it (we are aware it's far from perfect, but it's still our baby). As for the story, it's all part of writers freedom they decided to exercise to the maximum You will fight Mental once it comes to that, no worries.
I just don't get the comment about racism? What racism, where, why?!?

4) I remember seeing an unused boss icon for a Sirian Spaceship, would that be Mental's spaceship from the ending as the final boss? Or Mental was actually the final boss? What levels were cut or not enough time to be made into SS2?

Don't have clue about icon, but there were few levels cut from SS2, mostly one aboard giant spaceship run by mad AI.

5) What levels were cut or not enough time to be made into SS2?

See above

6) SS1's art direction is the best, it really defined Serious Sam as a whole. Why stop using it?

As said, we wanted to try something different for SS2. Perhaps that was not the best decision

7) I noticed there were a lot of inconsistencies with the Sirian's design. The SS backstory says that they are hairless human, yet they clearly have hair in TFE and TSE (and look like Gordon Freeman too). Then, in Xbox, they look nothing like human. SS2's Sirians are just stupid. SS3's Sirians look like Xbox's version though. So which version of the Sirians are the real one?

SS3 one

8) I feel that your focus on the series shifted to Xbox at a time in from 2003 to 2005 based on how SS2 was made for Xbox first, even continuing from the Xbox storyline instead of PC. Is that true?

No, it actually was made for PC first, and then we worked hard to squeeze it to XBOX. It was a lot of work to make it work!

9) Is SS2 remake just a HD upgrade, or the conclusion you guys planned for the series? I don't get why you guys tries to hide Mental so much, he's just a brain in a jar anyway. Besides, Sam can always fight other non-Mental related nemesis as sequels and be just as fun like Next Encounter.

Can't say much about SS2 remake, as it's still not confirmed, but, IF WE EVER DO THIS, it will be in a TFE and TSE vein with all things done rightly as it was supposed to be in 2005

I got a hunch I screwed up, mostly because I sounded annoying, but these answer pleases me for now. I kinda felt bad for CT because they had to face me. Guess I'll leave them alone for now and stay tuned until the next annual "Bombard CT With Questions That They Probably Forgot The Answer To"!

I felt that Magnor and Che Fang were a little bit stereotypical in a bad way. Then again, I wrote those questions at 3am after a very long day. So yeah, even I get cranky too, especially when talking about SS2.

How you contacted ct? email? If so gibe screens or didn't happend.

To be honest some of those questions were extremely dumb. You could ask this instead:
Why there wasn't Xbox content in HD remakes?
Will Gravity levels comeback?
Why there was lack of Split screen in hd?
Playable enemies in the future?
Micro-transactions in the veins of CSGO and Dota 2 which would help community grow?

I used Facebook, but it's private messaging and I don't know how to make it go fullscreen.

To be honest all of your questions are quite dumb too.

1. Because it's HD of PC SS1, not Xbox
2. Only if they decided to put the gravity code back into the engine, which I hear from Solais is a very frustrating and complicated thing to do. Also it's nauseous.
3. They probably forgot about it since SS3 has splitsccreen.
4. We already have one, it's called Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack!.
5. Serious Sam is better without micro-transactions. Hell, why should SP games have m-t? Do not forget that CSGO and Dota 2 are multiplayer games that were built upon already famous games by a very rich company.

Well I did ask for some people to help me think up of messages, but only the first question made in because 1) There were only 2 people who replied 2) The other response is stupid.

Besides, it wouldn't be complete without personal opinions.

To answer why there was no splitscreen in SSHD: Because that version of the engine didn't support it. For SS3, the engine was kinda almost like torn apart to somehow jam that feature in, it was very hard work to make it function.

Hehe, so you most likely talked with Roman if you used Facebook, and from the way he replied. I can assure you that if you ask some other member of CT, they might give you different answers. Actually, that would be a fun experiment, collect a set of 10 good questions and send it to different CT members.

Split screen is valid question since classic have this option and why on earth someone would like to buy again the same game which is inferior to the original.

Now it's a bit different since we got Workshop support and FE and SE connection but release versions could be received as plainly worse. Especially without gravity levels and Xbox additional content.

Community is focused around mp and playing custom campings together. Encouraging people to pay for moders would cause even more mods. Look at csgo for example it does it perfectly without making others having to pay for the DLC to play additional maps.

That's still in the pipeline due to Revolution's state of Early Access

I think it's been pretty clear, from the very beginning until now, that the PC has been the major platform for Croteam and that console platforms have more or less been afterthoughts. SS2:Xbox didn't even have a final boss!

Actually, that's what has been the start of the rumor that CT focused on SS2 on Xbox, because it was released there first. But now I know, since Alen described me the process of getting SS3 to X360 in detail in very long and very rage filled posts at console gaming in general (), that they have to submit the "final" build to Microsoft for internal testing and certification like 1 or 2 months before; so it can be pretty easily guessed that CT was not ready with the final boss by then.

Seeing how the retail version of SS3 (which had to be submitted by CT about 2 weeks before release) is missing the final level until installed and patched through steam, due to the level not being ready until a week before release, the thing with SS2 Xbox seems more likely that's what happened.

I am sure that is what happened. Microsoft is pretty notorious regarding its rigorous QA/QC testing process for any games released on their consoles.

I was just saying that releasing a console version that lacked a pretty important feature, like a final boss, is pretty good evidence that their focus was on the PC platform, not console (even if the xbox version did release early).

Yeah, it's widely known that the whole certification crap is complete bullshit.

It wasn't an episode, it was the final level of Sirius, from what I know.

Wouldn't that mean the boss is the spaceship AI and not Mental and that the Mental Institution was a last-minute-made boss as I suspected?
