They can't unless you have somehow caused them physical, emotional or financial harm. The former two should be non-issues, and you'd only have to be worried about financial harm if you: 1) Profited from their work somehow, 2) They can prove that your work hindered their sales by releasing their material for free or harming their reputation, or 3) If you plagiarized their work, claiming it was yours. Avoid those pitfalls and you're A-OK.

I came to this forum last year to announce my serious Seal Hunter clone game. The Last Game Hero didn't end up like I initially planed, because I didn't know how to program certain stuff, so it is like it is.
Now I know how to do it, and here you can see a version that is much closer to my initial vision (see all the blood and bullet shells). This is how it should have been. Looks much like those TRE pics. Well it should, it should ... if only I had a pixel artist.

My background is a variation to TRE by Vlambeer.

Me LOL, but I don't wear hats, yet.
Sam hasn't got much time lately, due all the indie games and SS3

Why ? You could say that for every simple 2D game out there. This is the same home made/modified engine used for Bloodcrafter and Silentcraft Hill.

This is Seal Hunter

SE3 can't beat this

http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/7617/editor2d.jpg

Been working on some kind of level editor. It is not very good, but you can make levels with it, save them, edit ... The "GUI" is DirectX based, made it myself. I don't know how stupid that is.

You can add entities, move them around, change some parameters. You can work with parallax scrolling on and off, set layers to be visible or not, collidable or not...

This is a very early stage, I hope it will get better one day. It is part of the game code, not a separate project. I could release this for testing soon, if anyone is interested ? You could make your own simple campaign or hunt down bugs

Your editor is at a mountain and SED3 is at a hill. Oh wait, I said the opposite.

Nah, just joking. Love it! But what game is this editor for?

Thanks. "Editor" is made with platformer games in mind, actually any game where you create levels of blocks. You just put some tile textures in a "tiles" folder, load them and you draw a level and save. You can add some predefined entities (enemies), health... It is all very clumsy but it does the job.

I hope I will make it right, so it will be a part of the "engine", if I don't quit before that.

My old bug, that was there before the one I fixed yesterday, is pretty epic.
Not only do occasional crashes happen, sometimes the player gets decapitated. The sprite that holds players body gets deleted somehow, so the body parts don't update.

I think Mental and Brett Sanderson have something to do with this

Lol-Head and body moves unconnected to each other? Or body moves but head stands on it's position?

There are no rules. Sometimes everything stops moving, sometimes the head stands still and body just falls down, or vice versa. But interesting is that decapitation always occurs.

Then if I press something, it crashes, if it doesn't crash sooner. I can't find why.

Just found the player 16 000 pixels beneath the bottom of the screen. This is really one tough bug.

Edit: No luck finding the body this time:

I think this bug has gained self awareness. I can't fix it. I am not even sure if I am fighting one bug or several ones. There are 4 different crash scenarios, and I can only reproduce one. Those are decapitation, teleportation and termination. The one I can reproduce happens when I rocket jump and one of the weapons collision dots is insi01111001 01101111 01110101 00100000 01110100 01100001 01101100 01101011 00100000 01110100 01101111 01101111 00100000 01101101 01110101 01100011 01101000 00100000 01100001 01101110 01110100 01101111 01101110 01101001 01101111 00101100 01001001 00100000 01100001 01101101 00100000 01110011 01101000 01110101 01110100 01110100 01101001 01101110 01100111 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101 00100000 01100100 01101111 01110111 01101110 00101110

Exclamation Re: AntonioR's Showcase Thread - 2D Games

After 7 days, if not more, I have finally made some progress with bug extermination.
It turns out it were several bugs after all.

1. The rocket jump one is fixed. Lets just say I checked for collisions and deleted the player when I shouldn't.
2./3. I think player teleportation and decapitation is fixed, but I am not sure yet. Here I haven't checked if the player was deleted on some places.

4. This lefts me with the last one. Like I said before, the player gets deleted unintentionally and the game crashes. I didn't know when that happens, but I have pinpointed it now, as you can see on the pictures. I know it happens when player and enemy collide and a method is called which is used for enemy-bullet collision. Now I just have to figure out why this happens.

I finally managed to fix those stupid bugs. All week wasted just because 3 lines of code were missing, and 2 lines were on the wrong place. I think I need to clean up the code once again, before I continue.

Haven't made much progress lately due all the bugs and frustration.

I tried to make the player more "alive", so I changed some stuff and I made him look like he is breathing by scaling his torso on x axis.
Of course it didn't work the first time so he just ended up having a big stomach, it was funny so I made him look fat.

http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/5717/bigguy.png

To spice things up, beneath the player you can see water that is a bit more advanced than the one made using minecraft textures. Before this shader was used over the whole scene, but now I can apply it trough a sprite, which I call "shader sprite". Now I can have many "water" objects on the map.

Lol... this is actually Silentcraft Hill map, which uses Bloodcrafter textures for the map, and Toni textures for the player. You just replace the texture folders and voila, a new game

Since the map rendering is pseudo-tile based, it doesn't mater what size of textures are you using. Once you set the size of the block it renders a texture over it until it is covered (the texture is not stretched).

I will try to something similar with the player, no mater what textures you use the skeleton should work properly. It already works when you scale the player, like you saw in the picture.

So I decided to clean the code once again and reorganize some stuff. I started with entity management. I made a layer class which holds some additional data about each layer/entity list, for example which shader will be used to draw certain entity layer, or layers rendering offset.

Here is a funky picture to demonstrate. Just to spice things up, the whole scene is rendered with a water shader, and on another texture (top-left) I rendered the whole scene without shaders

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/4972/projectstudenttoni20110.png

There should be some image resizing feature on this forum, at least an optional one.

Since those bug issues (actually since the Silentcraft video in June) I didn't really worked on this.

But, day before yesterday I found a working line-line intersection algorithm and I made some kind of enemy line of sight or however you call it.
