Love the colors! Great work! Only one suggestion maybe...on first and second screenshots, ground has some serious tiling issues...does SEngine supports decals? They are good to break tiling....

As for your question... every polygon has three texture layers. The first is the grass texture, and the second is set to a "stain" texture, size increased many times to break the illusion of repetition. Not sure what else to do there. I tried adding growth, but it's way too tedious and fiddly and eventually looks like shit anyway.

There's probably not much you can do about it. It is an old game afterall, and the official SS1 maps probably had the same bad tiling. The good news is it's probably not as noticeable from ground level. Aerial shots can make even the best tiling textures look bad.

This is looking amazing, by the way. I love the room with the roof made out of beams. You can tell a lot of work has gone into this. You even lowered the dirt paths to be a little bit below the grass that surrounds them. It may seem insignificant, but you rarely see little touches like that in community maps. Can't wait to play this!

Use the golden ratio between the sizes of the 3 texture layers.

Thanks. And yes, a lot of love and attention goes into this. I'm in no hurry to finish it because I want everything to be perfect, the way I want it. I'm also paying a lot of attention to the difference between single player and co-op, and I want it to be perfectly balanced for moth modes. As it stands now, there's 1600 monsters in single player, and I just tested the map by myself in co-op to see if there's no broken gameplay and these are the results:

Hey guys, sorry for not dropping by for so long. I've been pretty busy with school, relationship, stuff like that. I thought I'd drop by to give you guys an update.

So I have some bad news. Due to lack of time and motivation I am sorry to have to inform you that I have dropped development of this map pack. Trust me when I say that this isn't the decision I wanted to make.





















No I'm just kidding, this thing is alive and kicking. In fact, besides the dusk map I've showed you I've been working on two other maps which are nearing completion, one of which I am going to show you guys. Right now this map project has around 6600 monsters and 36 secrets, divided over three "episodes". This will be more by the end, trust me.

Hey guys. Wow, I do feel missed this way. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to spend here as school makes me spend much time doing frivolous things like php and Java.

And I'd like to thank everyone for the kind words. I was almost afraid people didn't give a shit about Sam classic anymore It's stuff like this that keeps me motivated.

Don't worry, my map pack will be somewhat under the length of TSE, but it's aimed at people who finished the game so the difficulty is harder but doable. I playtest it a lot, and I can manage it pretty easily on normal. Keep in mind that TFE and TSE both have around 7000 enemies in the single player.

You may testify as to how awesome the map pack is. How much love and detail goes into every aspect (geometry, lighting, scripting). Maybe reveal some non-spoiler information.

I'll take it a step at a time then.

The lighting is gorgeous. The shadows are a lot sharper and sweeter than in Croteam's levels, and more plentiful. In fact, he ran into an engine limitation. Plus, there is an excellent use of the colour spectrum, it's not just a constant blast of orange torches and bright sun.

Scripting is quite excellent too. Fights are diverse and in all sizes. Despite the massive monster count there is still lots of breathing space and exploration you can take advantage of. The map pack isn't going to be Seriously! Long because of the monster count only, it's also because of the levels themselves.

It has Kleers.


And kamikazes.

There are going to be a few elongated fights, but that is meant to be an intense moment, because it's important. The first episode has a 15 minute fight near the end, with enemies ranging from headmen to big lava golems and red biomechs, and the last level is obviously meant to be epic. But there's never any "fight the same 3 enemies for 40 minutes". All big fights build up to an epic finale, so there's that. I spend a lot of time tweaking everything, the pacing is good.
