Default Dead Serious (Dead Simple)

Working on a remake of Doom 2's classic Dead Simple for deathmatch. Yeah I know it's been done about a zillion times for other games but I'm bored (me starts to think about the Mappers Block thread). Only spent an hour or 2 so far on it. I don't plan on spending a whole lot of time on it anyways. I played the original to make sure I had the scale right (or as close as possible). I think it would be perfect for some 1 v 1 action. I'm making the center "cube" into a random teleporter.....

I guess that's why it's called "Dead Simple".....

I don't really have the time to map for a mod. Although I've contributed voicework for a few mods that never got finished.....

Well, if it is really that simple, turning on a storm shouldnt affect peoples FPS's then. Make it look a bit more like an enhanced original.

Yeah, you should add some models and some weather effects.

Thats sweet. The orange Sky is what I like the most and yours by far (serious engine) is much more buetiful than Doom's my only grip is that the level and walls should have a small tint of orange aswell from the sky.

The map actually has a more "orange/brown" look to it now. I also changed the grass so it doesn't look like a carpet. There's no need for models or weather effects. Remember this is just a 1v1 deathmatch map that is supposed to play like teh original.....

Quote:
The truth is that American McGee's life, as befits his first name, is a classic rags-to-riches story. Abandoned by his mother and stepfather at the age of sixteen, American was left to fend for himself, often stealing computer parts in order to feed his need to program. As is often the case, talent finds talent, and American was soon hired by John Carmack to work tech support at Id. American soon played a pivotal part in the creation of Doom 2 and Quake before moving on to Rogue for the development of American McGee's Alice. Counting Marilyn Manson and Trent Reznor among his friends, American's name has become synonymous with the Baby Boomers' image of Generation X.

I remember that map for single player. It was one of the only later Doom 2 maps I could beat without getting hurt.

OK now the problem I have is that because everything is to the original scale Sam can rocket jump onto the roof and out of the map. I put an invisible "roof" over the map flagged as "shoot through" but, like I said in another recent thread, if you shoot it with the Laser or Rockets you can see the impacts. The Minigun is ok though which is odd. I guess I'll just have to live with it. I suppose it's OK since this is meant to be 1v1 it will keep it balanced. Just dont shoot at the sky lol.....

It looked better that way. The level of the sun is very low and created really long shadows across everything. Besides I think it looks very Doom-esque this way.....
