I love your mapping, you have so briliant ideas. Did you consider using 3rd party textures in your work? There are many free to use textures around web, and I see that you stick with Serious Sam default ones only

Would love to see more content from you

I like the clean lines and simplicity. Too many games rely on fancy graphics. Now if it were green.. then it would be perfect.

These two were pretty early screens just to announce the project. Already I have made the whole ruins location with look like this. Tommorrow I'm going to import the textures (Firtly I need to learn how to do that).

I like where this is going (° v°).

Importing textures for Classic is not hard but not straightforward either. You have to check if the width n height resolutions are power of 2 (1, 2, 4, 8, 16 pixels and on), convert the images to .tga files, resize them bigger to reduce the texture blur in-game (optional) and finally convert them to .tex, while checking that the directory paths are right.

I suggest you to cut the textures from already ripped resources found in some websites.
Once you get used to it it'll be more fun mapping and gives lots of more ideas and opportunities

Nice one so far.. I usually start with my levels with this method, then slowly add the other elements to the level. I'm interested to see where this is going and what theme it's going to be..
Though I know Wally can actually directly export .TEX files that work; and Milkshake 3D can use those too. And most image editors and convertors easily convert or save as .TGA format.

I had some fun with textures at 2 a.m.
Where normally they are 20x20 I had to scale them to 512x512 so the bloom effect is not that visible. One texture is 1mb, isn't it too high?

hey, that's pretty good

1mb isn't that much but also not little, textures are compressed and smaller than the image usually, even more compressed if you don't preserve the 32-b quality (highly effective on images with only a few colors, by default it's unticked but you use it only on textures with detailed colors)

About ripping, how about legal reasons? Is it legal to use ripped textures from other games or whatever for non-commercial purpose like mapping in SED? Or its more like "noone should really care" way?

From what I've seen, on SS:R steam workshop there are full levels ported from Unreal Tournament 99 using their textures etc and they seem to be ok. Hmm

In short it's definetely legal as long as you don't gain profit from doing it, whether they are models, textures or sounds. In some cases it's illegal if you use these resouces for bad purposes like offending the game itself.
