I've always wondered about these kinds of graphics. Are they pixelated voxels or hand-drawn?

Also I suggest changing the Flak Cannon and Rocket Launcher up a bit. They look a bit too much like their UT counterparts, right down to the colors. Plus, shouldn't Sam's rocket launcher be yellow?

I personally like that they are different. Because they should be different. Not just copying SS1 again. (Also, the RL was red in SS2.)

Yeah, but right now it's just copying Unreal Tournament

Did I forget to mention right down to the color scheme?

So why not paint the Rocket Launcher yellow? Sure it'll be similar to the SS1 rocket launcher, but it's not the same.

Its orange? I always thought it was yellow.

On the other hand though i'd make the flak cannon orange for that particular reason. But i guess its up to the artists and i trust them cause they did a really amazing job so far.

It's sort of orangeish-yellow, especially in SS3. A sort of ocher-yellow.

Maybe my eyes are a little funny. Once i said this lime or lemon fruit was this colour then my friend said are you colour blind. Apparantly i have slight red colour blindness.

But yeah orange-yellow is close to be precise.

Actually, these weapons are modeled and then rendered in 16 angles from Maya, then a few pixels have been adjusted in Photoshop. All other art is hand drawn by me or Christian.

I think the inspiration for the RL comes from the Super Scooper for SNES actually, not the one from Unreal.

The reason why the Flak looks "exactly" like it does in UT, is because it's a homage, I like easter eggs, so the BFG we plan to make later on will probably look like the one from Doom and have the same functionality so.

Also, is it not a a little nice to have some variation from the regular Sam weapons =)

edit: 16 angles

Question, why would Sam need a BFG if he already have the SBC cannon that has similar function but even more cooler?

Yeah, they both technically function the same, especially the BFG from Doom 3.

If you ever need more weapons, Rail Grenades should always be the first on the list.

I say the BFG from Doom and the Cannon from SS are different enough.
Also, the list of weapons will probably change during development.

What he said. The BFG in Doom is about a massive explosion with wide range damage against a lot of enemies. The Cannon is large damage against a simple foe, or piercing damage against a line of smaller foes. Completely different in their roles.

Let's see;

The BFG from Doom Alpha fires 47 spheres of death that ricochets around.

The BFG from Doom fires a large green sphere that when hit, fires 47 invisible hitscan shots at all the enemies in your direction (kinda like Rail Grenades, but more powerful and not random)

The BFG from Doom 3 fires a large green sphere that kills everything around its path and when hit, explodes a large radius of death.

The Cannon from all Serious Sam fires a large black ball that kills everything in its path and when time's up, explodes a large radius.

Which one will you choose?

I'm pretty sure the one from Doom 1-2. Which is different from the cannon.

A Black Hole Cannon is the solution with an Explosion sound which sounds like the explosion of 10 millions Atomic Bombs at the same time.

I don't know =( Probably the one the coder think is the easiest to make =)

Whatever it will be, I think the BFG and the Cannon are two very different weapons. A cannon ball will travel much faster and for a longer period of time, bounce on walls and as you said, kill everything (most things) in it's path by going through them. But the BFG will travel slow and explode in a massive radius on any impact or after a short period of time.

Well, the only reason why the weapons were modeled like this and then rendered out in frames, was because it was a bit difficult to draw them in 16 angles. And it looked just so much better when they were spinning around on the ground in 16 instead of 8 directions.

This was an exception, I don't want that to happen to other things, cause the quality is many times not as good as to draw them by hand, pixel by pixel.

This is the first boss - it's located in the Lighthouse of Alexandria. That's the end of the Egypt episode, before Sam travels north.
