It's gonna be a while, it might look like we have come far but there's still a lot of things, big things missing, both in design and code.
That's why you haven't seen any walkers or larger enemies yet, they aren't in the game. All tier 2 monsters (walkers, warebulls etc) haven't even been produced in art.

We don't have any multiplayer component, several levels haven't been working even a second on, no effect editor etc etc

But It's all a journey.

Looks fun, and Hammerwatch seems to have quite a reputation.

Alright ladies and ladies, what you have been waiting for, some actual split screen local coop.

It's buggy and all that, you know the deal with these videos =)

YouTube Video: Local Splitscreen Coop!

This is the level E2M2, Troy. You don't see it, but there's a huge wooden horse somewhere around here!

That's really cool, what engine are you using for this? And how far into development is it?

Oh hey, so you're that guy from Daikatana MP!

By the way, shouldn't the Biomech be dark blue instead of teal? Also when do you expect the game to reach the next phase of development?

Nice! But are you sure? It looked like some things didn't actually sync between each side, somewhere in the middle (1:38-2:00). The screens are different. Looks awesome otherwise!

I didn't pay much attention to this project before, and I regret it. Split-screen is looking good so far, regardless of bugs.

Without really knowing a lot about the process, I would say the engine itself is about ~60% done. It's being coded by Myran (soon with help of Scratch) in C++ and Angelscript.

You really think the color is that off? I don't think it's that dark in Sam, but I guess it depends on what environment and light you view it in.

I'm not sure what I would consider our next step, there are some big things regarding how the AI works and what skills they can use (we have several enemies that don't work at all yet), weapon functions, or just effects. A major step would also be to get this game to have it's own music, I will start to unravel that thread soon (probably should at least) =)

There's a lot of things that aren't synced properly now, not only the things that are easy to spot. Each tree in the game have three variations, same goes for a lot of the props, like barrels, boxes and other small props, small stones on the ground for example, none of these are synced either - pause the video when both players are in a room with some crates and have a look =D

It was a big step to test this, it felt really good considering all the issues still there. Not only the splitscreen, just that we can now actually play the game from start, then load a new level, have Sam keep his weapons and ammo, so we can do a proper playthrough.

I think this is really interesting, I can't wait to try it.

How big will the levels be? How many levels will there be? Will it feature different themes? Will there be boss fights? Secrets? Any planned milestones?

And I assume local co-op is achieved through one player using M+KB and the other using a DirectInput/XInput-based device?

When ever we feel like we need beta testers, everyone on this site is ofc invited. I don't know when that will happen though.

I'm not sure how much I should spoil, very few people outside our office knows the storyline and length of the game, but if people are ok with it I can present more specific details about it...

No spoiler really, but the game will feature various themes, bosses and secrets =)

Split screen coop can be played k/m+controller or controller+controller. We plan to have 4 split, but that's a performance thing, we'll have to see in the end what works.

Will this be freeware, or are you adding this to third party retailers like Steam? I wouldn't mind paying if it's high-quality, though you'll have to work out a license deal with Croteam.

That's already been taken care of. After all, this thread was posted in the Indie Series forum, because you can consider it part of that. And yes, it will have a price.

I think this was all answered if you read back in this thread.

Discy, in case you missed it, these are the same guys that made Hammerwatch, so I would assume they would go the same route for sales. Steam being the primary outlet I imagine. And if you haven't played Hammerwatch, you should, it's great

I am loving the progress. I can't remember if Hammerwatch had splitscreen as well, or have you guys had to start from scratch for that functionality? Can't wait to see more!

Yeah, I somehow missed it before, and I'm not one to trod through six pages of posts, so I just jumped in here. Anyhow, my interest is piqued. My girlfriend and I both love Serious Sam, and we both love games we can play in local co-op, so this is a shoo-in. I was already baffled with how good this looked for a bunch of guys doing this in their spare time, so now it makes sense. Keep up the good work guys, I'll definitely be getting this when it's finished.

That's funny, we should do a bonus level where you shoot maggots with the minigun...

In any case, haven't updated in a while, the project is still on going ofc. But I've been delaying any new videos and so, I will show something when we feel ready to, a more complete longer vid instead of small clips.

I think it should be 2 player splitscreen (with key bindings for both P1 and P2) as well as 16-player online deathmatch/TDM/CTF/King of the Hell/and whatever original mode like football or something.

Oh yeah, how many enemies will there be on screen at once? There's a reason why Alien Shooter was so successful, you know. In fact, alien shooter should be what every top down shooter should improve on because its formula is so good.

Knowing Hammerwatch, as many as the screen can take.

It should support 4 screens so you can have 4 times as many monsters!
