I can't believe, finally, after all those years! <3

Yet - some effects looks like didn't evolved much since SS3...

Please be open world

Please be open world

Please be open world

Also yeah, they really have to fix up some of those visual effects..

God damn. I have no idea what to expect.

The bike seems cool. Even if the game isn't open world, it would be cool - I really liked the jeep in Next Encounter. And it really seems to fit in those massive open environments.

I like the look of the world. As much as I loved the cool ancient civilization themes in TSE, this looks far neater. And previous publications have indicated that Sam is gonna visit multiple countries, so this game's set of locales and playable environments might just be the most diverse yet. I love this part on the Steam page:

That deer hopping away when Sam rides past the forests really makes me wonder about the possibility of open world. I guess we'll just have to wait until E3.

About the effects, the gore seems relatively similar. Also that chromatic aberration makes my eyes hurt. The kamikazes' running animation also looks kinda silly, but I'm not sure why. I guess it could be the baggy trousers.

Also: The art features a bunch of characters who don't really look familiar. I can only hope the game doesn't have forced AI partners with you the entire time.

The cons (so far and in my opinion)
- The effects are looking obsolete;
- The hilarious blood-spill effect form SS3...;
- The cloudy sky looks the same since FE HD (which was 9 years ago)
- I've been hoping to step on the classic SS main theme;
- And so for the title itself - to be in BoinkLET style, with just a number after the name and no sub-title;
- Also Sam is looking a bit like in Sam from SS2 (mostly in the jaws, a bit in the wide upper part of the body);

And I don't know why, but since I saw the preview image of the video (Sam on bike with shogtun in hand) my mind instantly made some analogy with T2, so I expected some shotgun flip, like in T2. It didn't happen

I associate Serious Sam too much with ancient civilizations, so this fancy forest environment does nothing for me. It heavily reminds me of that other game, Scum. I guess when they said these two games share the same assets, they weren't kidding.

I did also get Scum feelings from the graphics, yeah..

But looking past that, I think the only thing that annoys me is the blood effect.

The subtitle is a little corny for my taste, but it's good to hear something after all these years.

I don't really like the idea of an open world Sam game. I don't feel it would really work with the core experience we've been used to. But I could see Croteam finding a way to make it work. It just rubs me the wrong way as too many games use open worlds as gimmicks more than anything else, and leave the world barren of activity.

Scum is looking okay to me, but those flowers in the grass, so the grass itself - it gave me additional feeling for SS2

Well that's the thing for me - I don't think I would've been as excited as I am now if there wasn't the possibility for an open world game.

Also, if it is an open world game, no way in hell that there won't be some kind of a battle royale gamemode in there.

I wonder if:
Planet Badass -> PB
Playerunknown's Battlegrounds -> PB
is a coincidence ?

I'm probably overthinking it, because that subtitle is just so lame, I'm trying to put some sense in it. Also that kamikaze running animation, lol !

I'm not exactly sure how Sam would work as an open world game - maybe something akin to Shadow Warrior 2 where you can freely access multiple maps within a world in which case I really hope it's not an open world game.

But really, at this point we've yet to see any actual gameplay. I'm hoping E3 will change that.

It's only 2 months away, and I've been waiting for this game for what, 5 years now? Yet that less than 2 months feels like an eternity. Damn you, passage of time.

Well, I'd love to have something different than the same linear maps that we've gotten in other Sam games, give me something new, something I can explore, like Far Cry.

I haven't played SW2, only 1, so I don't know how its open world system works, but for "open world" I understand 1 big map (eg. GTA, Far Cry, etc.)

The Kamikaze running animation looks fine to me. There are also minor and major biomechs at the end of the video. The major one looks hilarious.

Okay blokes IT IS FUCKING HAPPENING YES

I got a feeling that this map is just a filler, or made just for the purpose of this teaser. Or an intro? Who knows. Either way I'm really hyped to see it happening, after all these years

EDIT: Also, that very location Sam's riding in looks *very* Croatian. I mean it. I'll try an take pics of one place it reminds me of to show you all

Also, if it's titled "Planet Badass" I don't think it would take place on Earth. Earth is just not that badass.

EDIT2: The Steam link also mentions taht the game will support splitscreen, cross-platform multiplayer, Steam Leaderboards, a level editor and a ton more.

I saw the steam page already. As far as I know there will be Desert Temple remake for SS4, but maybe they've scrapped that idea.

I kinda assumed the same, it looks very empty if not for the many enemies, but yeah we'll see

The forest itself doesn't look impressive like in Scum, but I have to admit - these visuals (mostly tree models and shadows) are huge step forward compared to Talos's forests. So 8 gb of ram minimum requirements, anyone?

Having played Shadow Warrior 2, and seeing how it has suffered under the non-linear free-roam type of gameplay, I really hope SS4 either does something new with it or just doesn't go open world at all. Shadow Warrior 1 was so great, and Shadow Warrior 2 I had to uninstall after about 3 hours of play because I was being bored and frustrated out of my mind.

SS games, and their levels, have always been super fucking tightly designed. It's simply impossible to get the same amount of tight control over the environment in an open world free-roam level (let alone a procedurally generated one, like in Shadow Warrior 2), and since the extreme focus on level and fight design has always been what made SS so great, sacrificing (at least some of) it for the sake of an open world fad strikes me as a risky decision to make.

Nonetheless, super excited for E3 now. I hope we get to see some gameplay.

You may combine open world map with closed SS1 arenas. Instead of making linear level, just spread all the arenas on huge map, fill the in-between with some enemies and concentrate the real battles in those arenas. And the story can lead the player from one point of the map to another, from one arena to another, choosing to path to it, the road, or just explorering for secrets.

In that case, I don't really see the point of an open world, if it's going to act as a glorified level selection screen.

I guess I'm just jaded by the open world fad that's haunting the video game industry these days. A lot of games have been going the open world route, and most of them fumbled it terribly. I have trust in Croteam to make the right choice, but I can't see how an open world design could work for Serious Sam; hence, why I hope that SS4 is still a traditional experience with linear progression.

I'd love it if we saw huge, non-linear levels with many nooks and crannies to explore, similar to DOOM. A little less linearity in the level design itself would already make me a very happy camper.

No, no, no. You missunderstood me. I guess there will be separate levels (as separate .wld files). But every single player level may be huge and non-linear, as those non-linear parts are filled with monesters, lore pieces and secrets, but as in DooM, every level has 1 entry point and 1 exit point (or two, if there are secret levels).

Also maybe the level progress itself to be non-linear - all levels to have 2 or 3 exits, with different story progression, all leading to the final level and climax battle.
