Default Will SSR's enhancements to engine, entities and tooling be released as free software?

I know that SSR adds GLSL shaders, BromScript integration for manipulating entities, new entity scripts and miscellaneous rendering and engine enhancements also reflected in the Serious Editor and Modeler.

Given Serious Engine v1.10's official release as free software under the GPL, is there a chance of SSR's enhancements also being freed at some point?

Along with icculus having already backported his GNU/Linux patches, it would pretty much serve as a solid foundation for a potential community fork of the Serious Engine, similar to what ioquake3 did for id Tech 3 or DarkPlaces and Qfusion did for id Tech 2. Serious Engine 1 has some good tooling in its own right with the Serious Editor. SE1 is of course well known for its dynamic visibility rendering allowing massive worlds and entity counts (along with the 6DOF gravity markers), so it could well have plenty of life for it as an indie engine given its unique capabilities. The same way Build has survived for so long with EDuke32 because of its sector and tag-based map editing being so flexible.

I'll probably experiment with enhancing it regardless, but it would be nice to reuse working code.

The idea has come to mind, but considering the close integration with Steam we haven't followed through with this yet. This is probably something to reconsider when we release Bright Island.

Is the Bright Island campaign tentative or is there a projected general period for release? I could try and synchronize things so that I leave rendering and shader areas in their vanilla state while touching on tooling, entities, terrain and texture effects instead in my spare time, for easier merging later on.

That or I can just do this on my own pace and cherrypick from the source dump when and if you eventually release it.

Sounds like you are planning to fork it anyway. What kind's of feature changes are you going for?
