Default List of places to buy Next Encounter

US Stores:
  • GameStop/Software ETC.
  • MediaPlay
  • EB
  • Circuit City(unconfirmed)
  • Meijer

Online:
Bold = added 8/22/2004

Note: Since the release of this game in Australia was cancelled I'd like to point out that you can still order the game and have it shipped to you but it will cost more for shipping. You can order through Chips&Bits, Games Universe or Take2's Yahoo Store.

Gamefly is a rent-by-mail place for console games. Kind've like Netflix for games instead of DVDs. As of now, they still haven't listed a price so it's not technically for sale, but they have it and you can rent it from them with the option to buy as soon as they start selling them. Just an FYI

UK/EUR Sites stocking SS:NE
Amazon.co.uk - Both Vers: £14.99 + P&P
Play.com - PS2: £15.99, GCN: £32.99* (no charge for P&P)
Gameplay - Both Vers: £17.99 (no charge for P&P)
GAME Online - Both Vers: £19.99 + P&P
GameStation - Both Vers: £19.99 + P&P

So far the best bet seems to be Gameplay.com for the GameCube version and Play.com for the PS2 version.

*I suspect this is a pricing error on the part of Play.com and it will probably be corrected by Friday.

No sorry the best was when I walked into EB World 4/20/04 and walked out with it and then went home and started playing online with my PSX2.

BTW Whats a gamecube is that something I might store my games in.

Ha. Very funny. You know what a GameCube is, it's that console with the best selection of titles and a better games library than the X-Box and the PS2 at the moment. I should know, I own all three.

Gamecube is the console I have bought the most games for by a looooong way.
Oh and it's vastly superior to the PS2 and isn't a PC in disguise

As an employee of Best Buy and avid player of both PC games I was horrified to find out we would not be carrying this game...It is so sad that so many people haven't had the chance to be exposed to something other than UT and Quake....Oh well to the internet I shall turn.

Oh cool I have been thinking about getting a new system, so could you please tell me how is it's online gameplay, like does it lag or play smooth. Oh and are all games pay to play online like X-Box live and will I be able to play my DVDs and music cds on it and how big is it's hard drive?

Also can I hook it up to a computer monitor for RGB high definition resolution, like the PSX2?

Thanx

Oh BTW How many games are in it's library?

Added online ordering links for GameStop, MediaPlay, and EB Games for those that are having trouble getting a copy from those stores.

Nah never ever see jaggies since mine is hooked up thru RGB on a 36inch computer moniter, altho now then and again I do think that I am only viewing promo/hype screen shots while playing the game.

Hi.

I bought mine in a regional department store chain - mainly in Michigan and Ohio - called Meijer.

Games consoles are for playing games on. If you want to play DVDs or CDs you should consider buying a Hi-Fi. They're not too expensive, you can pick a nasty cheap one up for, ooh, about £19.99 if you're on a budget. Which I assume you are.

Admittedly Nintendo aren't very good with the online thing at the moment. They seem adement that the future of consoles shouldn't be dependent on the Internet, and theyr'e very stubborn like that. You can play some of their LAN games over the Internet if you have a Broadband modem, a network cable and WarpPipe for the PC, which is free, but the only real online title at the moment is Phantasy Star Online. I happen to believe that a game shouldn't need an online mode to be good, and neither really should a console. Why should I pay more money to be able to play console gam,es online when I have a perfectly good PC here?

I could list every single good GameCube game here in this post, but I don't have the time. Unfortunately it happens to be my birthday today and I'm going to go out and have a social life. Indeed.

Edit
While the X-Box lacks decent exclusive titles to make it worth buying, it does have the most impressive hardware and the best online of the three consoles. That's probably the only place Microsoft got it right - all of the XBs online games make use of the same service, the same interface, which makes it a lot easier for both gamers and developers. Sony just released a modem and told the developers to do the rest, AFAIK. And Nintendo did Bugger All aside from release a modem. Damned stubborn Nintendo...

Yeah X-box live is by far the easiest to develop online content for, it's pretty much already done for you. Like Benjadood says, Sony just released an adaptor n said there you go - you figure it out.

IIRC no-one has yet managed to make any money from online console gaming which is why Nintendo haven't bothered, they believe that it is commercial suicide and without the kind of funds MS and Sony have to back up their online ventures, Nintendo aren't willing to risk it just yet.

Ah. Well. There we go. Nintendo have always been money-concious, I guess (but they do put more effort into designing their consoles; the X-Box and PS2 are flimsy as Hell whereas you can throw a GameCube at a small child and cause minimal damage to the console).

Nah no budget here, my basement is an arcade, 4 computers on a network for lan games on the weekends when 6 to 8 friends come over to lan party out and since I have a PSX2 hooked up to dolby surround sound with Klipsch speakers thats running thru a 36inch computer monitor, its either playing tunes from cds or dvds for the guys that didn't bring a machine and are waiting in line to play next while sitting at the bar sippin a cool aid, heck sometimes they even get into coop games on it.

But anyways I might get my 12 year old son a GC, it looks like something he could handle and would like more than me.

Just in case anybody with a Gamefly account cares, they have copies of SS:NE for sell now at about $16.99 slightly used. A good deal, but a brand new copy is only $3 and some change more.

It is important to understand that the technical beta release does not have the stability of released Microsoft software.

I mean hey, if worst comes to worst there's an adapter you can buy that lets you use your PS2 controller on the Cube. Why not have the BOBW?

That's a good idea, I find the Ninty controller too small for my ham fists. I can't even use an AGB without getting cramp in minutes
