Default Direct encoding.

Hey guys.

Is there any way to run Mencoder.exe and Lame.exe to create AVI files from Demos without having a huge video file to process?

I'm no expert on demos, but I think you need to record them to a video file with a program like Fraps, and then compress the resulting avi file. I did a little bit of research about MEncoder, and I get the impression that it has the necessary codecs built in, so you just need to make a command line with the settings you want, such as xvid video compression, mp3lame audio compression and put it into an avi container.

The reason I ask this is because I have seen it done with programs like ZSNES where the game feeds the encoder video and audio information directly to a compressed AVI file.

Well, the closest I could find to that is the cvar Serious Worm mentioned in his guide on making avi movies from demos. It basically dumps tga files frame by frame when playing a demo, these tgas can then be combined into a movie file.

To my knowledge it is extremely resource hogging to do realtime compression while recording, so if you plan to use Fraps or other software instead of the demo capture method in SS1, I recommend recording a raw avi file and then compress the end result with MEncoder.

Set to >=0 to start recording each frame of the replayed demo
as one screenshot. Used for making movies from game demos.

Heum, that was a kind of necro-post, I mean, 2008 was 4 years ago.

Just sayin'
