Question A Targeting System???

Hey everyone.
For A while i've been noticing that everyone in deathmatch is so darn accurate, like blowing my butt apart from 100 feet away with a dual barrel shotgun. Is there some kind of targeting system people are using? If so, is there any way to override it if it's turned on? Or is it just that these people are skilled at this kind of thing?

they probably

a) have low ping and are skilled, or
b) someone else is blowing your butt from your back with the said shotgun

But you can't kill somebody from 100 feet with a DB shotgun. Each pellet takes only 10 health... OK you can get killed if you have <10 health but it's a rare chance.

i don't believe there is a 'targeting system', you have a crosshair, just push the left-mouse button already

I seem to remember, when I first joined this forum as "festering wound" in 2001 I was told about something called "Grand Master Shinobis Sniper Zoom". Im not sure if it exists at all, what it is and whether it's still around, and whether or not that's what you mean. I just thought id bring it up.

Actually, it did exist. It was a small file that you put in your SS directory, which allowed you to press a button and it would dynamically zoom in as long as you'd keep the button pressed. It would also, except changing the FOV, reduce the mouse speed so you keep the precise controls.

However it doesn't work in multiplayer because CT disabled changing the FOV in MP games.

Altough AFAIK in quake 3 you CAN change the FOV in MP games... Don't quote me on that though.

The sniper zoom deal is already built into the game. If you hold down the Use/Sniper Zoom key, it zooms in until you release it. And of course the mouse wheel will give you three different magnifications; 2.0, 4.0 and 8.0.

You can change the FOV by using this command in the console: plr_fFOV=a number between 1 and 200, 90 is default. I personally prefer 110. The only weapon that this doesn't work with is the sniper. It is always set to 90.

Deathmatch games are weird. There are very sudtle skills, movement styles etc in all of them which are almost unteachable ant arnt imediatly obvious. Many a new player has gone out with rocket launcher or something and gotten casualy fraged with a pistol assumes someone who is meerly good is cheating. I know because ive never cheated in my life but am good enough to get called one every once in a while in Deus Ex multiplayer and at one time in AVP2. That isnt in there just to brag, I have a point: I'm not a Godlike player owning all who face me, im just good.

I think you just need to practice until you get over 80% accurasy and then you are as good as this targeting system.

That gives me a good idea ...

I could make a map that tests your shooting ability... With say the Tommygun/colt as your only weapon... and you have to shoot moving targets that are some distance away ... or something...

Of course Shrinker would do all the trigger work

Good idea.
You could use the targer texture in Courtyards Of Gilgamesh.
