Default Old School Games... Old School Ideas

Jesus.. Just got done playing ZSNES with a friend who recently got cable modem
And I found out how to make ZSNES lag-free (changed a few settings)

Wow, man.. Have you ever played old games before?
The ideas they had back then... how could they EVER think of doing that?

Example:

http://www.billvernon.com/bfto/images/ShellShockedsm.jpg

That's just extremely funny.. No game would even THINK about doing something like that anymore.. Que Lastima!

Ninja Turtles (that was version IV (4)) has a lot of funny moments.. Walking along a ship, and planks come up and hit you in the head.. grabbing your toe when you step on something and going "Oww! My toeee!"

Classic

I owned an NES, but not a SNES.. I've played SNES before, though..
Just not a lot of games, and that was a LONG time ago.

turtles in time was definately good, the super shredder at the end... very very cool.

what else...

metroid... well it's a huge exploration game that rules, only as linear as you make it.

super mario world was awesome

how's about double dragon 3 on nes? that was cool with the ninja dood, i liked 2 better tho.

commander keen... i still want my cell shaded keen it's not gonna happen tho, cuz carmack is a bitch.

i do hate the original metroid, it has no direction at all! i mean, you start, and you... walk... with no direction!

super metroid was 10 fold better.

nah it's got direction... really best to read the manual and such. but it's the same formula that set the tone for super metroid. super metroid just looks 100 fold better, and you can remember where you've been instead of the "yellow" area or whatnot.

The simpson's arcade game was the best! I made it all the way to Mr Burns in his robot suit, but my parents made me leave

Metroid 3 = Super Metroid?

I think so... if so, yea, 3 is genius... no question.

Right up next to Castlevania : Symphony of the Night as my favorite exploration/platformers.

yep Super Metroid = Metroid 3

yeah i agree playa, i can't stand many/all games from the 1997-1999 period. 3d just got real popular, and it's like they couldn't make gameplay they just plonked you in a 3d world "here go and do... stuff"

they couldn't re-invent the 2d gameplay i grew up on and put it in 3d...

these days they're getting a bit better tho.

Old Skool gaming at its best....
Dont flame me but I like the original yoshi's island.... just play with the sound off and listen to the sex pistols and it gets ALOT better
until big baby bowser.... then you MUST listen to the music..... good thing that was synthed tho or someone be having bleeding fingers

I also really liked Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Ogre Batlle, and FF1 (sound off of course.... damn beeping sound on the menus)

Oh the memories!
I have my Mega Drive (Genesis) hooked up to my TV at the moment, and recently I was taking a trip down memory lane with games like:

- TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist
- Sonic 1,2,3 & Knuckles
- Alex Kidd (Yes, I have it)
- NBA Jam (Hehe)
- Rocket Knight
- Aero Blaster (horizontal scrolling aeroplane shooter)
- Urban Strike

Those games may be outdated and not so graphic, but yep, they sure had ideas back then.

i cant get into secret of mana. just not my type of game. seiken densetsu 3 was somewhat better but i didnt get far in that either. if you want a fun game to kill a few minutes look up super buster bros. cool game.
megaman X is also a kickass game. the only good game out of the X series.
i probably dont need to say this, but CHRONO TRIGGER!

Default Oh where oh where did the gameplay go...

Is it just me, or are most of today's games all graphics and no gameplay?

Look at the Final Fantasy series, polygons made it worse, even though FF7 was good, the games stunk after 7. FF8 was a game that a developed while the developers were high. FF9 was the series desperate attempt to get back to it's roots, and FF10 was a glorified DVD Movie. (A cutscene or movie every 10 steps! Bah!)

I'm the kind of gamer who looks past the fluff known as graphics and doesn't give a crap about movies and greatly look over the gameplay. Most of today's games simply leave me bored.

Not all of today's games suck, however. I just recently purchased Morrowind, and it puts all the other games to shame. It's like the Ultima Underworld series, only bigger and more in-depth.

It seems everyone cares about graphics more than gameplay, which is sad. Great-looking games with stale gameplay are popping out faster than rabbits in an orgasim. Old school games have that charm that newer games don't have, but what, I don't know.

I enjoy the good graphics, but when there is little/no gameplay involved.. it makes the games really not worth buying for anything.

I really don't care about the graphics.. I still play games using emulators
and they are very fun
