EARN YOUR PLACE IN THE CREDITS !

Thanks Kristo, Mischievous and Pablo-- for their support.

Offer ends now! Maybe later I will need more help.

I need few testers.

I really don't have much to show right now (the game and engine are in pre-pre-pre alpha state and I still don't know will I ever finish it), but it would be good to get some feedback from the early stage of "development".

If you are interested contact me via PM.

I wont accept testers who just signed in on the forum. So let's put a limit: minimum of 100 posts or join date before/including 1th June 2011.

It would be nice if you have some experience playing other side scrolling shooters like Soldat, Double D and Metal Slug, so we can discuss some gameplay aspects. Also, if you have a (not Xbox)joystick that is a plus.

This gif shows working teleporters/tubes and line intersection algorithm that is used for enemy sight. Notice how the kamikaze changes animation when he sees me. That is only AI in the game , he wouldn't follow me if we weren't both standing on the same platform.

Edit: These few gifs show what I have been doing this summer. I didn't have adsl back then to upload stuff like this. The progress is slow, but "eppur si muove".

Here is a new picture of the editor, and here is an old picture.

There are some new buttons, and when you want to overwrite a map or clear it even a yes/no message pops up. The three "forms" can be moved left or down to have a better view of the map. Differen entity layers can have different rendering offsets for parallax scrolling...

There is a lot of work to be done here, and a lot of bugs.

My only complain is that the 8 bit world looks a bit wied with full colour enemies, i think you should change it to atleast 16 bit

That looks pretty fun Do the gnarrs and player have a different mass? They seem to jump at different rates.

So much feedback, thanks

@Batandy: Since I have no 2D artist I will try to compensate trough the game's story (if I get to that).

@Mischevious: No, it's just that the player landed later on the jumping thing. Player can jump while it goes up, to jump higher.

The jumping is not limited only to this trampoline, it can be set for other blocks too. This will probably be used for some secrets later.

Got 87.5% on a midterm and made some code, that replaces around 100 textures with a single tilemap, work properly.

You understood me wrong (or you just confused me ). Before every tile type was loaded from it's own file, now all the tiles are in one big texture. So to render a different tile I just render a different part of that texture.

Basically now I can also use all those Minecraft texture packs without the need to crop all the tiles.

Very good. But is it possible to add more key frames or this is only 14?

Notice the "+" button in the top left corner

This is my first try to make something like this, it will have to go trough several more iterations before it gets really useful.

Oh man, I am literally drowning in code

The Last Game Hero was 7800 lines of nightmare. It was all in one file, no OOP whatsoever. But I learned from my mistakes.

Now "everything" has its class, I tried to keep the code clean, but I can't manage it anymore, it is just too much code. And I am still at the beginning.

You can try to document your code in notepad or similar, like "Class 'player' - Line (400;450) 'player movement' " and so on.

I found out I can place bookmarks in the code. But that requires a new Bookmarks window, so the code window is too small. I will need a second monitor

Neat things so far.

Do you need help in level design? I might help using your editors.

Well, Nintendo already solved the level design part , but recreating them is another thing. Level editor is not yet user-friendly enough to use it without frustrations.

I made a function that adds a new animation frame between the frames by calculating the middle value of two neighbor frames.

This will speed things up, and I can smother animations this way, to reasonable level of course.

Too much frames running at 60 FPS appears too slow for certain animations.
