Jquery is written in javascript and, to my knowledge, uses no constructs or syntactic elements of its own. But I guess Finzy separated them because jquery is a big library in its own right and has a ton of stuff to memorize and learn.

I do know, but in my opinion it's so vastly different and superior to JS that it deserves to be mentioned, since some people still code in plain JS. After using it for so long I'd see no reason to go back to regular Javascript, it shortens practically any code and I've yet to run into anything that couldn't be done in it.

Yes, javascript's default toolkit is very limited, but that is to be expected really, you don't want the standard package of a programming environment to include a whole ton of stuff you may never need, that is why we got modules and libraries like in javascript, perl, python, C, and I could go on and on. We want to trim the fat where possible.

Hey guys, you probably won't know it, but I've been quite busy on this thing. Just ask Fiendian.

So if anyone is still interested, I can dump about 20 screenshots to show what's been made since last update.

Edit: Also, I'd like to announce the project title. Ir-Kalla.

It's the name of the underworld in Babylonian mythology. By my latest estimate there's probably 5 hours of gameplay divided over different levels right now. With over 6000 enemies and 60+ secrets.

All right, so here it is. Big surprise, I'm making good use of the new Croteam rule that allows me to use First Encounter content.

Well, basically when it's done.

I can release a one level preview if you guys are interested. It'll be 30-50 minutes of gameplay. As long as players promise to give feedback.

Great to see folks still mapping with the old editors, and making it look damn smexy at the same time. Looking forward to seeing more.

I'd also like to point out that the reason I haven't posted (m)any updates on this for so long is that my already ancient laptop just started getting really hot and having trouble with even SEd1. And Angelo's Revolution editor still hasn't fixed the invisible properties box, so I was kinda stuck. But now, with SLAwww's awesome 64 bit fix, I can simply run it on my PC.

The property combo box for RevEdit can be "fixed" by simply deleting something from the registry.

To quote Ateri Angelus,

Quote:
Start regedit.exe by hitting the windows button on the keyboard, then in the search bar type regedit and start it.

Go to folder
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
CroTeam

You'll see a folder named WorldEditor, right click it and select delete and click on yes.

When you launch the editor the entity properties window should show up on the right and there you go!

Also what I mean is tell the people at 7smoke to host a coop event for your demo during the weekends so people can get around and play together.

To quote Ateri Angelus,
Well, too late now. I've got a fix for the standard version of the game, that suits me.

I got that part, but I have no idea what a 7smoke is. "Back in the day" we used the S! IRC channel to organize community co-op events.

7smoke is a community of Serious Sam players on Steam that regularly does coop events of maps and mods of Serious Sam, and sometimes other games too. noam2000, Devostator, and Roy O'Bannon are members there too. I think telling them to host an event there can receive more participants are organizing it in the irc here, plus more useful because of things like Steam Group Chat.

Heh, I know what you mean, this place just doesn't feel like it used to. I also try to drop by from time to time. I'm doing fine, and I hope your life is also good.

This is starting to look more and more like a family reunion.

Croteam don't build their games like a house, more like a fortified bunker. I have no problems running classic Second Encounter (1.07) on 64 bit Windows 7, and I expect the same of 8, 8.1 and even 10. You have to mess around a bit with the Game_startup.ini to set a non-standard resolution, but that's a one-time thing. The only thing is that the HUD may look a bit stretched in widescreen. You can always drop me a PM and I'll walk you through it.

Looks beautiful even on such an old engine. Some of that flavor never dies with the architectural details and stuff.

Looking forward to playing it for sure, hopefully it can be ported to Revolution once done (dunno how compatible the conversions have gotten). 7Smoke event on it sounds good, just be prepared to have it completely packed full of people (possibly).

Excellent work Discy! Glad to have you back. My only comment would be to try and make the outside ground terrain texture look better (could just be a poor screenshot for that).

We should totally host an event for this project. I'm sure we can get a few people rounded up for that! I'm not sure how current you are on the state of the game but these days you need a patch to play online.

Keep up the good work and keep coming back. The only way to get things back to normal is to do your part! It will draw more of the patriarchs of the community back.

Thanks for the heads up, I heard that GameSpy went tits-up.

As far as I know I put a sand texture on the outside, with a stains texture over it stretched to 4x4 to break the evenness. I'd have to check to be sure, though.

I lurk here from time to time, but it's a rare occurrence for me to post. I'll definitely try to be more active. There's also going to be a co-op event when I finish the demo to give people a little taste, maybe you could lead by example and join us.

Okay, the demo will be the first Egypt level. I've changed some things though, like the daytime, NETRICSA messages, and I've added a last arena. I did this because the level changing is fluid like Half-Life, you start in the same room you exited in through a level change within the same episode. So to keep the ending from being too abrupt, I'm adding a last arena and satisfying final fight.

Here's a screenshot of the new area, in the new daytime. With a reptiloid for scale.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/31840/sf/2015-08/HotDamn1.jpg

And here's an editor view with target lines enabled, now you too can see the mess I work in.
