That's one of the reasons. The other is that SS3 seems to have more mappers.

Also Pika, I linked a video to you before.

Heck I look at the outline for the contest and think, nah. That's not something I'd want to make. That's why I haven't entered. My vision and style of mapping doesn't fit well with what you're expecting and with all the maps I've made recently it's always been to some kind of rule.

So I'm gonna keep mapping but on what I want and with rules that I choose. That and I make $30 in one hour of work at my job.

Using assets from other games would be cheating.

I have not asked on the chatbox, and your post history does not show any link to a Portals gameplay video.

Why not just post it here?

What? You think it wouldn't? I don't see other contests that say that you can.

Best contest 2015.

I believe Pan is capable of making good maps without the need of using ported content, there's no need to instantly assume he'd use ported content if he wanted to enter the contest Solais.

You see? Not much people are interested in joining, me neither, I prefer to work under my own spantime and with my own rules, I couldn't make it with the space oddysey contest or whatever because I get too nervous making maps while under pressure.

You should know better that making campaign levels that are 30 minutes long isn't easy.

Danker, you should also stop trying to force him to quit the contest, it is completely his decision.

I am also sure Pan can create his own stuff without porting, and remember Pan, it is not about the looks mostly but about how unique your map will be (Gameplay especially)

Every contest has rules. Some contests have themes (Space Oddysey, Portal to Beyond). I don't think there is a good time of the year for this sort of thing because the fanbase in general has sunken below the minimum level for sustainability.

On top of this we are talking about a demographic (mappers) that is only a microscopic part of the fanbase. Furthermore, most of those people who can map for this game are likely to either be unwilling to do some random extra thing or are full-time employed and don't have the time or energy to do so.

So is it realistic to even do events anymore? No. Will we try? Yes. And at this point the 3 existing contestants are only fighting over who gets the most cash. So map on my friends!

I'd beg to differ. The fanbase is still big and strong, just not here.

So why aren't they coming to us too then? I mean, this is the offical Serious Sam and Talos Forum, shouldn't this forum be filled with fans like these? What caused people to leave this forum?

Based on Dank's observation, I think Solais should be more lax with the rules and deadline.

Also, I think Solais himself said this before, but everyone has their own projects to do. Sometimes dreams>money.

Thank you. It's like Solais just ignored every thing I've been trying to do lately. Go figure, hence the facepalm. It was pretty offensive to just make the assumption I wouldn't put in my best effort. But that's a moot point since I'm not joining anyway. hahahaha

Yeah, really sorry about that. I just got angry because the lack of any sort of care about anything by the fanbase in large (and I mean the fanbase, not just here; I asked around, invited people privately, we posted the contest to other communities) is seriously bumming me out.

Yes, what noam said is right. The fanbase is large. The modding community is what's really beyond sustainability. And my concern is really not this forum alone, but modding in general. That's why my title is "dev master". That's why I'm working in the background talking with Croteam so we can improve the moddability of the game (releasing the edit data and all that).

So if nobody cares, I feel that it's me who failed. At least I hope SS4 will be better. Hopefully Croteam can add a feature that imo will make the editor much easier.

Count me in!
I loved making bizzard content for SS2, and I got a very good idea for this contest.
However, i'm not that good with SS3's new form of coding so I might copy coding from the main game.

Looks like that huge ass banner is working.

EDIT: Huh, that's odd. I could've sworn I saw a huge banner for the competition on my usercp.
