Yeah, my level has over 1000 Len flares, and about 100 can be seen AT ONCE in the second area, word of advice, if my level starts lagging turn off the lens flares and it should run fine, or if your constantly being blinded by them

Because that is the whole world base (the map). It's all blue coz everything is joined. If you have to split maps you have to remove first part(using room brushes and add them to the world base, then save it as another map. The same to the other part.

It's hard to explain

Oh, those are Surfaces that separate between sectors.

Well, if the level is in an open area it's correct that you use multiple parts, but if it's underground i guarantee it's simpler by adding world bases with others

First of all, what is the concept of a World Base? How is it any different from the brushes of Goldsrc?

And why is the entire level covered in one big sector? I thought sectors are supposed to separate parts of the areas to render or some shit to optimize the level so it doesn't lag as well as being used for things like Water?

Croteam's maps have separated sectors, if you want to cut sectors, just click crtl + x in sector mode.

I failed on my map and set undergrounds as the same sector as the main worldbase, but I think there is a way to fix this.

A brush is either a room through which you walk, defined by the zoning checkbox and if the brush is checked as room, or a solid piece of geometry. A main base is one huge brush divided into sectors, like Croteam's maps. Different sectors are necessary because the game only renders sectors the player can see directly. Small additions to the game world should be seperatie world bases, like obelisks, stairs, fences and stuff like that, because everything in the main base is used for visibility rendering, and you don't want to complicate that.

I can understand if the main world base is a huge terrain like in Karnak, but what about indoor maps that are only a series of rooms. What would be the main world base there? Does it make any difference?(let's use Tomb of Ramses for example) Also why is it that the main world base does not have the "Delete" option when you right click it?

The main base is supposed to be one brush for simplicity's sake for the mapper. You could make a level consisting of a ton of main brushes, but then you'd have to line up all surfaces, and check the edges every time you change something to a brush. The editor has a built in check that reverts certain types of polys to non-portal when you mess with sectors.


Also, you can't delete it because it's flagged as 'Anchored'. When a brush is flagged like that you can't move or delete it to prevent accidents. There's a 'move anchored brushes' button that allows you to still move them.

You can delete main world base, but firstly you must disable anchored option.
In series of room the main world base is that rooms, and the sectors are separated into rooms (room is sector, passages split sectors)

One of the Egypt levels from the map pack I'm working on. It has at least 1.5 hours playtime, and I know the level inside out, so a first time player will probably take around two hours.

I have to split the level, though. Serious Engine 1 has this nasty bug (while playing) where, if a level has too many details (lots of low shadow cluster polys and lots of lights), most of the polys become black and get weird black and yellowish circles on random occassions that can't be fixed or prevented. And I don't like dumbing down levels.

This time I'm building it like how you make levels in Quake-based engine. Turns out that I must join everything to a single worldbase, woops. However there are 2 unnamed worldbases out there since I started the map and I have no idea what they are. One is probably the background, so what is the other?

You can easily find it. If you click the dropdown list and click on a name it will be displayed in the dropdown list. Then, if you click the icon with the box and the blue arrow next to it you select the brush that's on the dropdown list. Make sure to deselect everything else first by hitting tilde (~, next to the 1 key) two times.

Also, you're not adding everything to the main base, are you? Smaller things like stairs, columns, stuff like that don't need to be added. Only stuff that you need to be able to walk through the world like corridors, rooms, underwater areas.
