This time I have something different for you.
I decided to take a short break from porting Quake weapons and instead make something simple.

So I present to you: Ragdolls in Serious Sam Revolution! (Well these are not actually ragdolls but they still look cool )

Of course every ragdoll video needs to have giant pit with obstacles to show off

And before you ask: No I didn't make these animations by hand, it's only physics.

It's hard to tell because there's still no documentation for it

Ahhh, the animations are baked.. I was wondering how you did this in Rev when I saw the video on Steam

Magic of illusion

I'm honestly surprised how cool effects it's possible to achieve using some simple tricks.
Baked normal textures for example

The last ragdoll reminds me of the intro for the Royal Sewers level of Sam2.

I guess because we both played Serious Sam 2, and we both thought the intro of Royal Sewers was funny and memorable. Also the design of that part is pretty similar along with the way Sam drops down. I'd call it a funny coincidence more than barely possible.

I'll make a little "behind the scenes" today to show you how this exactly works.

Ok guys time to replace "magic" with science - in other words: How I made that effect.

First I made ragdoll physics for Sam model in Blender.

http://i.imgur.com/8WGboDql.png http://i.imgur.com/okJprv5l.png http://i.imgur.com/eHLg4vPl.png

Next I exported level geometry from SED and imported it to Blender. Then just started simulation and after it was done I baked animations into Sam's skeleton.

http://i.imgur.com/bImBJrvh.png

Next step is to export animation to SED. Good thing is 1 unit in Blender is exactly equal to 1 unit in SED - that makes it very easy to position model correctly back in the world editor.

http://i.imgur.com/GZGnOCxl.png http://i.imgur.com/SaW7epol.png

After that I made simple setup using triggers and moving brushes.

http://i.imgur.com/bB0m93kh.png

And that's basically all.

Also I made video to show exactly how things look in action

YouTube Video: Ragdoll's mechanism

And just like that all the magic is gone

The cake is a lie

Nice Job And lol that final ragdoll physics reminds me of the player's physics on Unreal Tournament 2004 in bombing run when you jump into the hole as you score. But great physics test how did you do it?

Also im just wondering two things. 1 - Can you actually use skeletons in serious modeler? And 2 how do you toggle the editor objects off and on in the test game that would be really useful

But great work with it!!
