well, it gets worst than that.

in the 2014 competition, САНЕК's map has files with Russian symbols in their names, meaning you have to configure your PC to read Russian Unicode to play the maps.

Thankfully it was the only one of the 10 that had this, hopefully none this time around will.

(Plus the map was pretty broken, the door leading into the bio-farm area doesn't open no matter what, so I had to ghost through it)

the ending I got was a 'make believe' elevator sex game.

and as I said before, there were some unused parts of that level, like a cutscene, and a boss fight.
Well, it does say it's a Beta, but to me, it felt Alpha.

I'm thinking about translations. You guys can make an Entity for translation file generation. Here's the example algorithm:
1) Create .txt file in Data/Translations/Levelname.txt
1.1) Write to it how many strings need to be translated
2) do "for each trigger in the world"
>if trigger has message
>>if message is not numbers
>>>write message to the text file based on this example
\0\<
Храм в пустыне (it's original russian text)
\0\>
НУЖНО ПЕРЕВЕСТИ or NEED TO BE TRANSLATED
\0\
2.1) Do same with level name

3) Write $ in the very end of file

Then mappers can place this entity on the map, activate it and write text.

Of course it's only for trigger messages.. but I think it's good start.

It's a damn nonsense start, the Engine does it already, and to use Triggers as Messageholders is bad.
Why should i include an Entity for Translation? The Map can't be played without that additional custom dll File and custom dll Files can't be packed into a gro Package.
NO WRONG WAY!

Why not simply doing it like Croteam ?
Create a second gro File for every language that includes the txt Files with the Translations.

And for the Map itself do it like coding, use only ascii for paths, filenames and such other....

I think you misunderstood him. Heming meant a special .txt translation file, which can be made for any map and placed into Data/Translation directory. At least this is how classic TFE/TSE were officially translated into Russian and other langauages. Thus you can translate any text which is located in entities/triggers of your map.

The mainproblem is (i preaching it since 5 years) that the guys are simply use Characters which are not supported, that's incredibly stupid because they break the compatibility for working Worldwide.
(I am the only one who find that arrogant ?)

Let me explain it more detailed by an example with Cyrillic Characters:

The Letters "Храм в пустыне" are supported definitely by UTF-8, but not by ANSI or ASCII.
So if you read it as ANSI you get "Храм в пустыне".

I dunno the reason why the SeriousEngine1 Tools aren't deny such Inputs, but the SeriousEngine1 seems to use the Characterset defined by the Operatingsystem and not UTF-8.

All the Letters from the English Language fits into ANSI and ASCII because both Charactersets are based on that Language.
So first write it in ENGLISH (Files, Paths, Messages, Texts, ...) then translate it into the other Languages (deu, esp, fra, itl, jap, rus, ...) and all problems are gone.
Not the other way around !

Do you think they write it first in Chinese to translate it into english ?

Apparantly with the game if you try and load the files that are in Russian text, they usually come up with an error, saying (ascii text) is missing or something. I wonder how you can get the game to recognize Russian text..

it's complicated, but it revolves around setting your system to Russian. (it took me like a week to get it to work)
CAHEK's map has this problem, and in all reality it's his fault for using Russian Unicode for files names.
This is a big no-no, and and thankfully, it's not common.

I hope he won't make the same mistake this time.

I hope i don't misunderstand you Buzzy.
I dunno it but i think the Numbers (0-255) defining the Characters are stored in an .wld file, i never tried to load a Map with an Translation .txt file other then German.
I have the European Version from SSTSE, on the Russian Version the Translation .txt Files are not saved as ANSI.

As long as the Mapper use Characters which are in range of the Characterset from another Player (which doesn't use the same) it will only change the Symbol.
(This is the Reason why i see gibberish instead of Cyrillic Symbols)

The Problem is (as Example) if the Mapper is using Characters from an Charset for Path- or File-Names that are not supported by every Charset, so it can be that the File can't be found only because the OperatingSystem from the other Player doesn't support one of the used Characters only too.

EDIT:
I personally use and recommend to use only a-z, A-Z, 0-9 for Paths and Filenames.
Also for Texts and Messages if you wrote them into a .wld or such.

Here you can find a ASCII (7-Bit) and a Extended ASCII (8-Bit) Table:
http://www.asciitable.com/

Since ANSI often means the Windows-1252 Characterset under MS OperatingSystems here is a Table of that Charset too:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows-1252

One of the things I did, I downloaded a Russian Language pack for my PC, it definitely helped get the map working.

Probably but i think setting the system to Russia (temporarily) when i am playing it will work, but im not sure if i can get those Russian language packs anymore for XP. (I have SS installed on that computer) but I also have it installed on my W7 computer and W10 computer.

And yeah the Russian symbols are actually on my computer (Like in the Arial font) somewhere mid way but when the game tries to load it i assume it doesn't recognize it so it probably converts it to ASCII but im not sure how it works though and I think i get what your saying as well.

Yeah and im getting those gibberish letters as well like you said when i load a map..

This is why, I've more or less moved on my Classic. If this contest for SS3 I'd be working on it like a heart beat!

Also, Steam fucks with the SSTSE Editor, but not Rev's, it's to the point that it's very annoying, I hate that damn overlay popping up.

A final reason is one I've had since the start, just, a lack of an idea for the theme.

Serious Sam classic has no Steam integration. Go to your steamapps\common\serious sam classic the second encounter\bin folder, run SeriousEditor.exe.

Problem solved.
