That was from static shock?

thats probably a safety issue that should be addressed.
when you ride in my brother's car you get a realy big charge, first metal thing you touch when you get out *SNAP* fortuantly its most often the car door as you reach to close it after you.

/me makes mental note to touch car frame before using gas pump.

Here's a link on static charge due to car seats

http://www.jci.co.uk/Carseats2.html

Depending on what you are wearing and what the seat cover is made of, you can generate up to 10000 volts.

Seen that a while back on the news as a warning. Not that particular clip, but another one where the car actually caught fire and blew up.
They say once you get out and put the nozzle in, don't get back in the car and back out again. Sliding across the seat, especially on particular fabrics can build up a static charge.
The first time you get out you actually empty the charge by grounding yourself to the car when you touch it to open the gas cap, but once the nozzle is in and the gas fumes are coming out, doing it a second time can ignite the fumes.
To make things worse, looks like that woman's shirt is made of wool, more like a sweater.

It can also happen while using a cell phone, which is why in many stations you will see it is prohibited to use a cell phone at the pump.

Didnít myth busters do something about this? The fact that women are more likely to get back in the car and thus more likely to create a spark cuz they sat in the car again. I forget what their determination was but I know they tried to prove it.

<--only cuz no animals were hurt during the making of this clip

Heh... thats funny, I make a note not to do that though, everytime I get out of my car there is a little snap of electricity to the car door when I touch it, luckly it doesn't hurt to much. :/

People should know by now, you do NOT get back inside the car while it's fueling. Idiot.

OWNED, BITCH
THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR TAKING 5 ****ING MINUTES JUST TO GET THE PUMP ****ING STARTED

YOU ALSO DRIVE AN SUV, AND YOU OBVIOUSLY HAD NOBODY ELSE IN THE CAR

Die, plz

Also; myth busters tried to get the fuel started on fire, and they had a HARD ASS TIME, too.. . They didn't prove it, but they said it is possible, but very very rare.

Also, as long as you touch the side of the car after getting out (something metal, or what not), to discharge the energy, you'll be fine

thats why gas stations should keep the pumps where you have to hold the handle, so you cant get back in your car while youre filling the tank.

Over here you have to hold down the handle to let out the petrol, never thought how useful that is until now.

Yeah..

I pretty much always hold the handle whenever I fill up... when travelling through bum-**** virginia or west virginia (one of the two, forget which), to get to ohio...

we made a stop at a gas station, and because of the long ass trip, my parents set the pump to pump itself, whatever.. we all went to the bathroom (late at night)

we come out, and my mom is like WTF!!!
they run out and turn the pump off... the sensor that is supposed to shut the pump off when your tank gets too full, WASN'T WORKING

so yeah... 50$ gas bill...
funny thing was, they said it happend a lot, they had that kitty-litter type shit ready and everything

they should have just broke the ****ing tabs off, but no....

It's probably intentionally "broken" to sell more gas

I get back in all the time, to put my gas card away, w/e. I always ground myself on the door though, and keep my cell in it.

She wasn't very bright to begin with. Taking the pump out of the jeep, then laying it on the ground? She on crack? There's a reason you have to lift the handle to start the pump (some have a trap-door type of thing. Take out the pump, the door comes down). All she had to do was either set the handle back down, or TURN OFF THE PUMP.

I guess not, since it took her half of the video to start pumping the gas.

No kidding. How many times did she go between her car and the damn station before she finally figured it out? Jeez...

I use the little clippy thing all the time, and hate when it's not there, cause I don't like just standing there holding the damn thing, especially when it's cold and windy. Takes a good 5-10 minutes to get your hand to uncramp once it's frozen out there. Anyway, the correct way to use it is like I do: You start the gas pumping and stand there next to it so that you can observe the pump handle and the ticker. When you start getting close to the amount of gas you'll need (you obviously checked the gas gauge to know you were almost out of gas), you take the clippy thing off and finish pumping.

Besides, I automatically ground myself on the car anyway when getting out, just so a shock doesn't surprise the shit out of me when I reach for the next door handle.

Anyone notice her fuel tank was on fire too? Hehe...
