![]() Just bought this as part of the Serious Sam collection on Steam and won't start up on my Windows 7 64-bit PC Pentium Duo 2.8GHz, 4.00gb, AMD Radeon HD 7600, DirectX11
I searched high and low for what it could be and tried everything that was suggested: made sure that other xbl games like Bastion runs (yes perfectly fine) verified the integrity of the install completely shutdown my virus and f/w uninstalled completely, then reinstalled Serious Sam Double D then reinstalled dotNetFx40_Full_setup and xnafx40_redist rebooted, still didn't work then I tried the suggestion of changing my speakers to digital, still crashes with error: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: CLR20r3 Problem Signature 01: ssgame.exe Problem Signature 02: 1.0.0.0 Problem Signature 03: 4e89d798 Problem Signature 04: mscorlib Problem Signature 05: 4.0.0.0 Problem Signature 06: 50484bd7 Problem Signature 07: 3fda Problem Signature 08: 1f4 Problem Signature 09: System.IO.IOException OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 0a9e Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Additional Information 3: 0a9e Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Then I ran a debug that created a .doc in Serious Sam Double D folder and got: 3/3/2013 5:33:46 PM ================================Main:Start 3/3/2013 5:33:46 PM Main:SteamFacade pre 3/3/2013 5:33:46 PM Main:SteamFacade new'ed 3/3/2013 5:33:46 PM Main:SteamLinkHook Init True 3/3/2013 5:33:47 PM Initialize:Start 3/3/2013 5:33:47 PM LoadContent:Start 3/3/2013 5:33:47 PM LoadContent ![]() 3/3/2013 5:33:47 PM LoadContent:InitializeTransform 3/3/2013 5:33:47 PM LoadContent:debugDrawPostInitLineList 3/3/2013 5:33:47 PM LoadContent:prebaseLoadContent 3/3/2013 5:33:47 PM Initialize:FinalizeCommandLineSettings 3/3/2013 5:33:47 PM Initialize:mbgLogo allocated ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I compared this to other logs people posted and saw that mine did not include: 10/25/2011 9:05:50 AM Initialize:End 10/25/2011 9:05:51 AM LoadState:set state AUDIO_LOADING 10/25/2011 9:05:51 AM InitFileManAndLoadAudioreload ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm at a total loss, any help? ![]() Seems like it can't locate the content.. Ofcourse I guess Nathan can tell you more. I notified him of this thread.

![]() Hi SeriouslyNot,
Sorry to hear there's a problem. Well it definitely sounds like this will be tricky if none of those other 'usual' ways of getting it to work didn't help. I'd like to confirm a few things. 1. Can you check that .Net and XNA are properly installed? Start Menu->Control Panel->Programs and Features-> Make sure you see Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile and Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 4.0 (probably says Refresh). 2. How much extra harddrive space do you have?

![]() Wow! Fast response, thank you!
Okay, I checked and this is what I have installed: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile Microsoft .NET Framework Extended Microsoft XNA Framework Redis. 3.1 and 4.0 I have 40.2Gb free on the drive that SSDouble D is installed Let me know if you need more info! |

![]() Ah, well, it may be fast--I'm just concerned as to whether we can get it fixed. But let's try.
I'm thinking it could be the weird sound issue. I know you said you changed your speakers to digital, but let's look at this again. 1. Do you have headphones and speakers? Can you go Control Panel->Sound->Right-Click Speakers->Disable and run the game? Could you only try running sound through your headphones? Also do you see this option? Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Speakers -> *right click* -> Properties -> SRS Audio Enhancement -> disable effect Can you disable that effect? See where that gets you.

![]() Nathan, I know these are the generally working fixes for crashes, but did you see that the exception thrown is of System.IO.IOException?

![]() I'm with Angelo on this one too. But I did attempt what you suggested to no avail. For some reason, I have a hunch it has to do with my gfx card as a lot of reported issues of this nature seems to share that one commonality, the Nvidia or at this point, AMD gfx cards don't seem to play nice with this game.
Anymore suggestions? |

Good point. And I saw that but I guess I was more worried about how the log said it stopped halfway through loading audio. Which has been a problem in the past.

Kidding! Okay, so I checked the thread here, you've not mentioned confirming that your graphics drivers are up to date. Since we're talking gfx card.. might as well check. But then I just checked, and this is not a good sign. Terraria also uses XNA and most fixes for that game have worked for SSDD. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/...d-not-working/ Soooooooooo... if the drivers just don't work with some XNA games... we might be at an impasse. Is it possible to roll back the drivers?

![]() So basically, the only answer is to rollback my drivers when every single game I own works except for this one? I really do not understand that logic. I just checked and I have the most current graphic card drivers available. The components it relies on work, I have other games that use these components as well with absolutely no issue. Is there anything else that can be done or tried before I contact Steam? Thank you.

![]() Hi SeriouslyNot,
Before you contact Valve, could you look at the Content folder in the game's folder? C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\SeriousSamDoubleD (Might need to change common to your PC user name) Right-click on the content folder->Properties Copy and paste here the Size, Size on Disk, and Contains fields. Thanks.

![]() Here is the information you requested, hope it helps track down this issue with SS DD:
Size: 465 MB (488,429,848 bytes) Size on Disk: 466 MB (488,890,368 bytes) Contains: 185 Files, 17 Folders (one of the files is the game_errors doc) Also: Read only attributes Allow files in this folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties is checked in the advanced attributes (none other are checked), not compressed or encrypted. |

![]() I thought we were onto something when I saw the size was different. But it's the game_errors file then.
1. Another sanity check--could you download the demo for Terraria? Could you check to seeif it runs? 2a. Also, is your keyboard plugged in? 2b. Is this a laptop? 2c. Any other special info about your keyboard? (I realize that's a weird question, but given when the game says it's crashing it's relevant).

![]() There is no demo available on steam for that game.
Okay to continue the whole grasping straws ordeal, yes I have a keyboard plugged in (usb). It is an i-rocks keyboard that I purchased at newegg here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823204024 |
