Just my two cents:
  • You need to change back to SS2 mod, so that the editor will run with SS2. This can be done using the launcher.
  • I didn't try the UVmapping I suggested for the terrain though . Another way maybe resizing the texture (using the stretch property).

Yeah I changed back to SS2 already. I have the textures stretched nicely (I think the value is 20 for each texture right now...gives them a cleaner look).

I'm just releasing this map, not the whole mappack. I haven't done the two other maps yet. Sorry, I'm lazy, but working on this Serious Mind map feels more attractive...I'll post some screenshots soon. Weird screenshots, I'll promise.

Okay, the final version of Path Through the Woods map is done. I just had a blast playing it with Insamnity 2. Suprisingly enough it worked perfectly with the mod (and if you want to play the map online, feel free to use Insamnity 2 with it, it's great!).

Freeimagehosting thumbnails don't seem to work here...

As you can see from the last screenshot, the total enemy count is around 2400 with Insamnity 2. I played with 5x enemies- you should try 7x or higher if you're playing with more than 2 people or online.

Btw, if anyone is worried about those mountain textures, I recommend enabling anistropic filtering (or, in short, AF). When I played with 8xAF all mountain textures appeared normally without getting overly streched.

Are you sure you can get shadowmaps to work? Try giving to someone to fix....I did that with my map that had the prison cell at the start. I couldn't redo the shadowmap (kept on getting the crash error) so I gave it to someone to fix

No, the editor still crashes whenever I try to do shadowmaps. I get the same annoying "Application malfunction. Please report." error. I don't mind if it doesn't have shadows, it gives you a better framerate anyway

I don't see the purpose of having to get the .wld files though. The map in unfinalize and thus I can still edit the meshes.

I added the shadowmap to it, but...

Do you edit Shadows UVMap, or just leave it how it's done after "Arrange UV" of "Atlas" commands? I do edit it!

And please, use higher resolution image for shadows, because they look crapy. But I can say it's 16 times more beautiful level when it's with shadows!!!

Wow, that looks really nice twl! Second screenshot....well, wayy too dark. Fix it if possible- could you somehow remove the shadows that the terrain and cliffs do? Or make them a bit brighter? It kinda ruins the jungle athmosphere now...it's starting to look like some kleer planet.

It's weird that it's still unfinalized. I finalized the map for PC after saving it....or do you need to save the map again after it's finalized? I got no popups in the editor that asked me to save the changes...hmm.

Ah, need to re-mention your name in the readme. I could never get the shadowmaps to work.

Yeah but it looks a lot different from the original one.

Does the entire canyon look like that or are there bright spots where the sun gets to shine?

Fantastic work, twl! Maybe I should start paying you each time you do a favor for me... (j/k) Those tree shadows look pretty good actually. I don't think the shadows are messed up in the third screenshot. It may be because two bloom entities are used in the same area (I noticed this near the chicken facility and the pile of tires), and that's why they create so much brightness.

I think I could fix that myself though, but if you have spare time, just move the bloom entity somewhere else so that they don't conflict with each other. I don't think this happened in the original version of the map though (or if it did, it only happened near the teleporters).

If the treehouse of horrors is too dark, simply dropping one bright light there should fix it.

Well, I think you do them instead. Will be providing a link soon.

And, if you want to see whether where does the blooms fall, you can always check the menu that I am selecting in the following screenshot.

But your resolution must be big enough to be able to access that menu! (The things disappeared because I hidden them. Explaining it just in case you though this will mess things up)

That temple is still uberbright after I removed the bloom. Guess I'll have to mess up with the lightning to fake it out...

I think that place was already orignally very bright (and the bloom make it even brighter).

I actually fixed that place by placing a dark light, but later I removed it because it is better if you do it yourself.

EDIT : And yeah, 1280x1024 is big enough.

Man, I hope I don't have to regret calling this the final version of the map...

I fixed the lightning of the temple, added one extra secret and fixed all the bugs I could find. This version also includes shadowmaps (thanks to twl for adding and fixing them).

Now create a contrast between bright lights and darkness and make textures to look awful. And don't forget to put grass on metal surfaces (use some unusual texture for grass ). TEH WEIRD RULEZ!!!! But I still say that I will beat you with ALPHA.

Grass on metal surfaces? I think I'll keep at least some of the realism in there. But yeah, that might fit for some weird outdoor terrain...

Thanks for the comments btw, complete weirdness is exactly what my goal is. I mean, wouldn't you like to swim in your own crap?

Since netricsa is damaged anyway (and as it is an important part of Sam's mind), most of the stuff will appear un-usual. I'll also have to create some memories in there, like Sam's bedroom when he was still a kid, or maybe small parts of SE's levels (I'm not experienced enough to clone the whole process though), maybe a military camp, hmm...as long as it's weird, it's fine.

I submitted Path Through the Woods on Seriously! yesterday, so you might see it on the filesystem someday...
