Question Dedicated server start up?

Hi everyone.

I just needed some help regarding a dedicated server. I started playing TSE again after many years. I used to sometimes set up a server to play with friends etc. and to set it up I used SeriousRunner. However that tool doesn't work on Windows 7.

I do actually have the scripts for the server so that is not the problem. I just can't figure out how to actually run it and start the server using the dedicatedserver.exe which comes with the game. Usually SeriousRunner took care of that lol. I'm sure it's simple enough so if anyone knows and could help, it would be nice to get something setup.

I have actually tried to contact Aphextwin through his ICQ and via PM but haven't heard from him. If anyone is in contact with him, if you wouldn't mind could you kindly point him towards this thread. It would be nice to have an updated version of the tool

Thanks for any help.

You have to set it up so the files are in a folder in Scripts/Dedicated/, something like this:

C:/Games/SeriousSam/Scripts/Dedicated/MyServer/init.ini

Then, you start it like this: DedicatedServer.exe MyServer

Though, I don't recall SeriousRunner not working on Windows 7... Guess I'll make my own version some time.

Hi Angelo.

I currently have the server files in the scripts/dedicated folder of the games directory so it looks like this:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Croteam\Serious Sam - The Second Encounter\Scripts\Dedicated\My Server

Then within this folder I have 3 files:

1_begin
1_end
init

Where exactly do I type the command to start it?

Confused about the 'DedicatedServer.exe MyServer' bit. I read that in the help files. I tried typing it in the actual exe for the dedicated server in the Bin folder, however that command window doesn't allow me to type anything and closes when I push any key.

Thanks.

It's called command line arguments, and you can pass it on via cmd like this or via other means such as this.

I feel like a noob now lol. Yeah makes sense I just didn't go about it the right way. I tried it through cmd however I didn't include the full directory.

Thank you for the help Angelo. I hope if you get a chance you could write a program similar to SeriousRunner, it's just easier than manually setting up/changing the config.

Nice one.
