And I thought Nika was going to talk about both Sam 4 and Sam VR at the Slovenia Games conference this year.

Well sure. But it was still beautiful-looking and the music was awesome. One of the best tracks in the game actually. Yes, it was lacking in... Furniture, shall we say, though. But I thought honestly that the emptiness just kind of lent itself well to the dreaminess of the level.

That was still artistically better and creative in terms of level-design and atmosphere than the majority of Serious Sam 1/3 levels.
And it was Purgatory, not Hell fyi.

Actually, I thought that the final episode of Painkiller took place in Hell.

Nope, only the final level take place in Hell. Monastery is the entrance to Hell.

Well, that explains why that level was also Hell to play through.

Well, the level itself was also awesome but, yeah, it really didn't work for the actual combat. XP

It was too opened and the enemies are spawning just few at once. But is still one of the most memorable levels.

For me, it was memorable due to all the shitty jumping places where I fell to my death then realized that there are barely any checkpoints.

Painkiller talk, eh? How's that for a painkiller?!

I guess we all need something to get our minds off of SS4 for a while.

Why not quicksave? The black edition (I don't know about the H&D remake, I bet they could fuck that up) allows you to quicksave except on Trauma difficulty. And I don't think the checkpoints were too few either on Trauma, except that damn Trauma-only level Forest. That one was hard as balls, but very atmospheric.

Yeah, locked level are the biggest reason why I replayed this game so many times. To unlock all the tarots is other reason. And the third - the gameplay itslef screams "Replay me again!"

In-game content (levels, powerups, etc) > stupid achievements.

I used a mod or such to unlock all levels on all difficulties myself. But yeah, I'm not really a fan of the monastery level, and yeah, I did quicksave in the end, though I personally don't really like to. I'd rather start over from a checkpoint with full health than from saves where I got nothing and die just after making a jump.

And I dunno, I personally found the gameplay even more repetitive than SS. There are really only like 3-4 types of enemeis that just have different skins in different episodes and the battles are often just adding enemies in without much planning and that's it.

lol, you are playing on Daydream or Insomnia On Nightmare there is no health restoration on checkpoints and on Trauma there are no souls to heal from. I enjoyed the weapons, which are very original as a visual design and as functions combined with all the loved special moves from oldschool shooters.

You're like the only person ever who I heard doesn't like Painkiller for those reasons. So, congrats, I guess. Hell, just talking about the game makes me wanna play it again.

Ah, so you're saying I should make the game less fun so I play on a "better" difficulty level? Lol indeed.

I do agree about the weapons though.

Same here, when the talk started I just installed it, and now I'm going to beat it again on nightmare and then on Trauma, both PK + BooH.

I always have a backup of my profile with all tarots unlocked so I can immediately dive into a Trauma playthrough.

In Black Edition Trauma is unlocked by default and unlocking tarots is very interesting every time. I own oldschool Black Edition - no stupid DRM required, no steam, nothing. Instal, run, play. As it should be.

I really want to like H&D but there's also so many reasons NOT to. For one, cutting up all the original maps and releasing them as full-priced DLC is downright criminal. And they even did the same with the Tarots! Further, a while ago, me and my bro downloaded and played the demo on the 360. And for whatever reason, the actual Painkiller weapon was completely missing.

I wonder if they kept all the options and features from the original too, like the MP and even being able to very easily assign primary and secondary firemodes.

I do agree about the weapons though.
A lot of them were pretty ingenious indeed. The Shotgun, Painkiller, Stakegun, and Minigun were definitely the best of them all IMAO. Whoever thought of the minigun and RL combination especially was a genius. I never realized how incredibly well those two weapons go together.

I like Steam though... It's way too convenient and cheap for me not to. However, since IMO, digital is inferior in almost every way to actually having the game on physical media, it kind of has to be.

The problem I have with HD that I really don't see any sort of improvement to the visuals at all, so I don't really know where to put it. It wasn't as bad as some of the other "expansions", it is the best thing after Black Edition, but it's just... the same, mostly visually too. Sure there are a few new weapons, and that's it.

Also they changed the music of Leningrad until the final battle. That is UNACCEPTABLE!

From Devolver Digital: Next year if the Croatian gods of mayhem have their way! Could this be? Or not? To me, it has to be a Sam 4 hint.

Well, no, it's not a hint, since the statement is kept appropriately vague. Devolver is likely aware of the fact that game development takes time. They're more or less just as hopeful of any news on Sam 4 as the fans are. Croteam will release information when they feel as though the time is right.

And in the case of Croteam, it's much better that way, seeing as how Talos finally saw reveal a few months prior to its release, and that game turned out fantastic.
