Default Various Problems [Game crashing, freezing, FPS drops...]

Game Freezing, Crashing, framerate drops, Weird mouse sensitivity.

Freezes from time to time, but on the same spot, alt+tab fixes that problem.

Crashing at some places on the map, example the room with spikes in the ceiling
and water beneath with an ankh rune in a hole, if you look at the rune while
jumping in to the water the game crashes, cltr+alt+del fixes that problem.

Framrate drops, i have constant 60fps, which is the games locked framerate
(locked as in: it cant go higher than that), but from time to time the fps drops to
about 15-21 fps, when i alt+tab out and back in again i get the maximum fps
back, obviously its a videomemory leak bug.

Dont know if the last one has anything to do with the game, but yesterday my
mouse got a bit weird, when i looked left, right, up and down it didnt quite follow
my hand movement, i tried different surfaces and it was the same result, dont
know what that was about though, and like i said it might not have been the
game.



Gonna make another post in the normal channel about features that should be
implemented.

I have a pretty strong high end computer, guess i could try but i dont think there will be any difference.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66 GHz
4GB RAM (3 supported from vista 32-bit)
XFX Radeon HD 4870x2 2GB


Just checked all settings from lowest low to highest high, freezes as the same spot and framerate drops.
When it freezes i can ctrl+alt+del to bring up the menu thingy and then abort that and tab back into the game and it unfreezes.

when i get low framerate i only need to tab out and back in again to get full frame rate again.

Gonna post a video in 1920x1080 resolution.
Where i get framedrops and then alt+tab out and back in to recover from the framedrops.

since im recording at 1080p in realtime it gets a bit choppy (normaly i have between 70-200fps without Vsync, with VS i have constant 60)

The spots where the screen becomes black is when i tab out and back in, watch the fps in the upper right corner and compare before and after.

I think I have the same prob, I guess these freezes occur mostly when you are near or in water ? Try ren_bFrustumCulling=0 in the console

This deactivates frust(r)um culling. According to wiki it's this:

In case you tried it and it didn't work for you chances are good this is due to a typo, the variables are case sensitive and if you typed ren_bfrustumculling=0 in there it will not even report an error but just create a new variable with that name. This happened 100x times to me with the cheat variables.

Therefore it's always saver just to type the first letters of a command e.g. ren_b and then have the game complete the var for you by hitting TAB. Actually a list of all existant symbols with the prefix you typed in will be shown, then just keep TABbing to flip through them.

Since you have a 4870 X2, confirm that both of the GPU's are enabled in the catalyst AI setting. If so, disable one of them, run the game through the problem areas see if that changes things. If one of the GPU's are already disabled try enabling the other one? I would think that the most likely issue is having both GPU's enabled. I see you have driver ver. 9.10, you could try 9.11 and see if that makes a difference. After installing those set of drivers, rerun the steps again if you are having issues still. If that dosent work you can try running driver sweep from guru3d.com and go through the steps on cleaning the drivers out. (Very good app for uninstalling drivers btw) Reinstall the drivers and try again.

I cant have the 9.11 drivers cause i cant have higher resolution than 1024x768 if i have.
And when i uninstall 9.11 i cant install 9.10 back, so i have to make a system restore to make things back to normal.

hey, I had lockups with ren_bFrustumCulling=0 as well, only got me rid of them in some underwater sectors what made me wrongly assume it applied everywhere... However I haven't had any lockups since I disabled occlusion culling via ren_bOcclusionCulling=0 (occlusion culling is a method to determine what polygons can be seen and thus need to be rendered).

Also, disabling crossfire will do it. I had problems finding where in the catalyst ocntrol center to configure it, because 'Navigation menu—On the Graphics menu, click CrossFireX™' (from the help content) apparenlty doesn't show up if you have a HD --- X2 GPU (people on the net confirmed that..).
However disabling Catalyst A.I. will disable crossfire, too. You can find it under CCC 'Graphics->3D->AI'

Disabling either of them (crossfire or occ culling) will have a negative impact on the performance (I guess ?), I haven't checked the FPS and actually I don't care as long as the lockups are gone and it's still playable...

Interesting, this with occlusion culling makes a lot of sense. Getting occlusion query results back from two cards at the same time might hit some problem in the driver. Thanks for posting this, it will help locating the exact cause of the problem!

Hm, interesting, gonna try that.
I dont have crossfire but an X2 card, and btw i managed to install the 9.11 drivers i noticed i had force TV detection on and im pretty sure that made a mess.

Been testing now for a while and so far, with AI off, the problems i had before are gone.

is there a command for wireframe mode?

Guys, have you tried newest 9.12 drivers from ATI? They nailed lotta issues there, and I've tested it (for now with 3870x2, XP-32 and Win7-64) and it worked flawlessly!

Yeah i just installed the 9.12 drivers, the problems seem to be gone completly now.

People say ATi arent very good a writing drivers i guess its true =)
