If you have a GOG account you can get Fallout 1 for free in the next 48 hours. The games they are giving away are better than those I actually buy

Also, we all heard about Ubisoft and their DRM policy, well... they released Assassins Creed 1 and Heroes of Might and Magic on GOG, DRM free. They are a publisher with newest games there.

Also you can pre-order Botanicula, new game from Amanita design.

Was that announcement made a few days ago, by any chance?

No seriously, if this is true it is pretty cool, especially in the case of Ass Creed. I have a GOG account but I have yet to start using it.

They did announce they will be giving away a free classic game on Thursday. The new Ubisoft releases weren't mentioned, but they already said there will be more and more new(er) games on GOG.

I just finished Homefront, and I don't get all of the hate for it. Yeah, the background story is brain-dead stupid, but the actual settings are fun. In some ways, they remind me more of post-apoc games than "oh not america has been taken over" (like the abandoned suburbs). The levels are all distinct, and the game is fun enough that you can ignore the dumb premise long enough to kill some futuristic Koreans without thinking too much about how absurd the entire thing is. It's no GOTY, but I was pleased with what I got and don't mind replaying it.

The plot kinda makes more sense if you think it's a post-apoc game where some crazy faction (like the Enclave from Fallout or the cyber dudes from RAGE) has taken over parts of a wasteland and force the citizens to live in some crazy dystopia built on the ruins of America. Hell, the "survivalists" are clearly Mad Max-style bandits, so it actually fits. Even the final level could be explained by the "US Army" being a big resistance movement that's trying to start a war to defeat the crazy government. Just change the enemy voices, remove all of the NK flags and Korean writing, and give the blue armored guys in the last level laser and plasma guns and you'd have yourself a good post-apoc game.

Ugg, just bought this and played for an hour or so.

Generic console game (although it has REALLY good pc support).
Slow. Slow movement, even when running.

They added way too many things to try to lengthen the game, like MAKING you walk VERY SLOWLY behind someone for 3-4 minutes at a time (you can NOT get around them no matter how you try).
Walking very slowly in camp, or indoors.

A LOT of invisible walls, where you would least expect invisible walls. You expect a wall about 1 foot out from walls, and from really dense brush, closed or 1/2 open gates, and things of that sort.
You DONT expect to walk smack into an invisible wall 1/2 way into a deserted backyard. Seriously, you can walk around in 1/2 the yard, but not the other half.
You dont expect to walk smack into an invisible wall on an open gate, that you can clearly fit through.

Weapons.
What army gives their troops 500 different kinds of guns?
None, thats what army.
Sure, run out of ammo for that weapon? SOL. Drop it. Pick up another gun that may have 40 rounds in it, before having to drop the gun for another gun.
Tedious.
Game lengthening tediousness.

F.3.A.R. was better than this.
(sorry, not aimed at you at all Squadala, I just seriously dislike the game)

I have been playing the recently-released to Steam Ys : Oath in Felghana. If you guys ever remembered playing YS III : Wanderers from Ys, this one is a remake of it.

I've also picked up Scary Girl on Steam, which is a port of the indie XBLA platformer. I like what I have played so far.

Also, playing a lot of Brick Force Beta.

Solve puzzles cooperatively with yourself? That reminds me of Braid... I guess it sounds like an interesting enough puzzle game to keep an eye out for a sale.

It will be interesting to see where this leads. I started with Windows just because it is a "gaming platform" and I think many did so as well.

For my fellow US gamers that enjoy console games (looking at you Viper), there is an awesome deal at Target that lasts until this saturday. You can trade in any two used console games at one of their stores that have a mobile station and get a $20 off coupon for any game $30+. I am planning on trading in a couple worthless Rock Band track pack games I purchased and maybe two PS2 games for two separate coupons.

To top it off, both GoW3 and Portal 2 are on sale for only $30 this week. So using these coupons, I plan on getting them both for $10/ea.

My first OS was Windows 3.1 back in 1994. At the age of 6 I hadn't the slightest idea how computers worked or what was available, my computer years began with Windows and I have never seen a reason to switch to another OS brand since.

I was around 10 when I first saw a PC in real life. That was around 1998...

That was pretty darn awesome. The fact that it was made completely with game tools makes it even more awesome. Color me intrigued...

From a PC gamer article:

So, basically his job is to build most advanced games engines, and in his spare time he builds rocket prototypes and virtual reality headsets. Now add judo and brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The first publicly released concept art of PlayDead's (creators of Limbo) next project "Project 2". This time it should be a 3D platformer, and released on Xbox[xxx], PS[x] and PC in 2014

More really depressing stuff? Damn...

I hated Limbo for being so damn depressive. I mean, they expressed the feeling of nothingness and being alone in nothingness so well, that I didn't like it.

It's a great game from a fancy artistic point of view, but it's by far the most depressive thing I've ever played.

Depressive ? What's so depressive about it ?

In the first half of the game you feel lost, you wander around searching for answers only to get killed in really disturbing ways.

The second part is just an artistic puzzle platformer, with an ending that doesn't answer any question you might ask yourself during the playtrough.

IMO, a great gaming experience nevertheless.
