Unhappy Problem at end of installation

At the very end of the installation, it hits 100% then a thing pops up saying

An error occured when installing:
Error reading from file

Retry | Ignore | Abort.

I tried Retry, same thing. Then I cleaned disc 4 and hit retry, same thing. Aborted and same thing after retrying entire installation.

Any tips?

No, not at all. I just bought it new from EB Games and it works fine until it hits 100%.
Almost like it doesn't know what to do, then if you hit retry it puts the installation back to 75%

What are your PC specs? They might have something to do with it?

If you don't know how to check them, go to Start->run, then type in dxdiag.

Yes show all of your PC specs, I might find out what is causing the installation problems.

Hm...

It looks like an installation problem, or your graphics card is weak. An ATI radeon 7000 wont run the game at ALL. You can get a new one for a good price.

Hold on i'll provide a link; what country do you live in?

The graphics card has nothing to do with the installation issue, but it will become a problem if you try to run the game. There is not a chance in blue hell that SS2 will run on a 32 MB ATi 7000 series.

Have you tried installing it on another computer? Other CD drives may read it better than your drive does. And if it installs, you can compress the installed folder and use a memory stick it on a disc to transfer to your computer. (don't forget to extract registry keys too)

By the way, it is not a good idea to recommend a video card to him before we know if he has AGP or PCIx slot, or either of them at all.

looks like it's an AGP card on an intel 875P chipset.
so an agp card is one of the things needed here.

as for not installing i have no idea.
although it says you have 3GB of hard drive space left. that usually doesn't take page file size into effect. so you might be running into a low hard drive space problem.

Didn't notice that. Yeah, trying to free some space certainly wouldn't hurt in this case.
Let us know how things go.

The only other computer I have right now is a Mac OS X (yeah, really old) and i know that won't play it. I tried hitting ignore last night and, when at the main menu in the game, it popped up with a message saying I changed my graphics card or something and go to Video options and click Auto - Set or something of that sort. I hit it and it came up with an error. Then I tried just running the game and when I hit enter (Start), it kicked me from the game (Most likely my graphics card).
I think I have a nVidia GeForce 6600 graphics cards somewhere. Will that work?

Oh and I just cleared up more space and says I have 10.8 gb of free space on my hard drive

I'll let you know what happens

That will do fine yes. If you aren't sure on how to install a video card, you can ask a friend to help or look for an online article.

It will work great, I can tell you that. But still, you shouldn't go too crazy with the video settings.

Clearing up space fixed the install problem.

I'm glad you can install it.
And once the 6600 is up and running, so will SS2.

I couldn't find my 6600 card, but I did find a nVidia Elsa Glory III card (which I don't think will work for it, but I'll try) It's a NVIDIA Quadro2 Pro card, so I'll see.

Uh, error again:

Fatal Error: Cannot Set Display Mode!
GfxAPI error:

I have never heard of that card before, and I doubt it will work, but the Quadros are higher end than the regular brands though.

No card will work without proper drivers, I don't know if the recent ones are compatible with that card. Best to read the list of supported cards for each version of the Forceware drivers.
