#1 Bloom is a nasty thing. The first pic has two clear examples of that: the gear in the sand and the sun glinting off the water.

#2 The mixture of sand/dirt and rocks in the second pic doesn't look right. It would be more realistic if very close to the water was sand and then further away from the shore is more and more gravel/increasingly bigger rocks until it hits the high tide line where there is usually some kind of cliff (could just be a step up) and then the proper land would be dirt, plants, etc.

Keep in mind that real shorelines are a showcase in water erosion.

#3 All of the rocks in the third picture look like a flat texture rather than 3D objects. Just saying. It also kind of looks like the FOV is off for some reason.

Other than that.. looking good man.

Update on the layout blockout...Imagine that the yellow boxes are a windmill, and that it's actually sunset x3
Figured someone might find it for interesting how blockouts look like.

The level of detail on that windmill is absolutely amazing, and the sunset... I can't find the words to describe it. You really outdid yourself this time

I LOVE the shots of that carpet fort like hut a few posts up! What is that for?
How did you model those cloths? Gives me a strong Myst vibe.

P.s.: In the shot with the sunset and those windmills, the trees look a bit out of place, given the arctic climate...

Your blockout is definitely more detailed than my blockouts. My blockouts are grey boxes, no fancy terrain like that.

AntonioR, thank you, thank you, stop it, stawp, you're flattering me.

Changed the direction of which you'll approach the windmill, and prepared my lighting.

Kaffee, The tent hut was a test, I used Marvelous Designer for it. And I hope that I'll get the level to fit the trees and not vice versa x3

It's probably the lodding. Most games switch to use 2-polygon trees from that distance.

In many cases that would be ok, except normally the 2D image faces the camera. In this case it is angled so it just looks dumb.

Not always. For example Croteam uses lodding for trees that does not have their images facing the camera.

That's not a 2d image at all, it's the lighting atm, I thought about the 2d image plane but that's not Next Gen at all when used for such close distances.

Next gen is full 3d with real-time lighting/shading at unlimited distance.

Next-gen is having great visuals while the game runs in "cinematic" framerates, weird resolution and aspect ratio.

Yes, exactly, that's why I'll frame lock this at 15 fps to run in original Noir movie frame rates! And each one will be offset at a random direction to simulate the old film strip roll effects, with random hairs and fingerprints appearing.

Slowly starting up the conveyor belt, this is just one module still, so you can tell it has repetition, but in the end the windmill would be made out of lots of module variations + I'd be able to make any other house with them too.

I don't like the heavy wooden pieces on the upper part of those circular things. There I said it.

Lastest bullshots~

There's still a lot of work to be done on the windmill, but it works as a good palceholder for now until I work out all the other stuff, like cliffs and plants.

Nice! I don't suppose the final product will be architecturally sound? I don't think this structure is up to current building codes.

Uh, all these images are up to 2MB PNG files, takes a while to load the page...

The windmill looks nice, though it lacks contrast. Not sure is it because of the light or textures. Also Not sure who needs both a windmill and a water mill in the same building IMO the watermill should be scaled down to 30-40% of it's current size.

Btw what is this actually for ? Just a random project or for SS or Talos ?

Thought I'd post an early bullshot from my entry for Pan's mapping competition as well.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12216973/SS_Showcase/Kart_Bullshot_1.PNG

So far it's pretty barren, as I'm trying to make everything from scratch again. My food rations are running out, and I might not make it till the end of the week.

With some luck, I'll finish adding these cliffs around all the track pieces, and once it's all closed in, I'll start adding Le Detail.

It might not look like it, but I'm trying to go for this, Iceland / Tibetan desert feel, but my colors are way off currently xD
