Geez, at 40 odd million dollars US (Im guessing), thats one expencive garden. What a waste it is to see perfectly good machinery turfed out like that. Still, If they'd left em out in the open, the Coalition woulda bombed the bejesus out of the wherever they were parked.

I wonder how you bury that many aircraft without anyone noticing?

"It said many of the planes were buried with little protection and might never fly again. "

Good ********* going!!

No but what I expect is that due to "safety" these planes will never be in flight again. Poor little jets, how could they know they would be unearthed by the very people who waste the most food in the world. Likewise, it would be too expensive to fix up and remove all the dirt froma mig so its a waste. How sad.

No doubt there's many good parts on these planes that can still be used, such as electronics. I imagine the turbines would need to be stripped down and cleaned before use.

Edit: It wasn't 51 buried. Only "some" were.

Every single part of those burried planes would have to be stripped down do to the little protection they had. All the wires, electronics, and metal would have to be cleaned or replaced. The bodies of those jets require to be as smooth as possible and with all that dirt and sand coarsing up the body, it'll lead to disaster at mach 1 or above even if they could still get off the ground. Even a slight variance in the body can be a hazard to the pilot. Who ever came up with the idea to bury them was an idiot.

actually migs only cost about $2 mil US each so it's not all that much ... anyone want to buy a private airforce? (like that guy in france that has over 100 flight ready warplanes... bastered!)

whoa there cowboy it states there was protection and in case ya didnt notice the dirt is sand and gravel....the plane would be in no less conditions if it sat in the open...in fact better since theres no blowing sand on it...the intakes and engine were sealed all they had to do was get em ,blow em out and wipe em off....true a few would have needed more care but I have no dought they were intended to be reused...and I dont recken they be sold either unless its for display here at home so we can eat food and look at it and be glad no one is flying it into something....so just slow yer buggy down there ya whip snapper
