Default Crazy idea to improve SS2 netcode

While playing DM Pro with Finzy yesterday, I thought about a crazy idea to improve SS2 netcode.

Basically, we will be modifying all we can from the SS2 SDK, and modifying the code to whatever we know. For example, we will replace all "unreliable" keywords to "reliable", translate from "RPC" to meta net keywords, and etc.

Because of the incompatibility with the normal SS2 maps, and the possibility rate of failing is pretty high, I don't think one person would be up for the job. (or else someone would have already done it ) So, I am thinking about making this a community project. Every programmer in this community can contribute partly to the project, and can contribute any time they want that they seen fit.

We would upload the code to a SVN, and every programmer can dedicate part of his time to work on the code.

Then we will also have a testing team, with members from different countries that are very far from each other (as far as possible, to test the ping and stuff). This team will bring us the result of the testing each time we make major modification to the code.

If this project is a success, then we will seek Croteam's permission to release this modified SDK. Then, modders who make total or partially conversion mods will benefit from this SDK. If we manage to make the entities compatible with normal SS2 maps, then it will be even better.

Sounds interesting enough. But do we have even five coders here with enough spare time to start a project like this?

Well, I guess that is why the thread is created in the first place. To arose the interest and recruit some programmers.

The project can start immediately when there are at least five programmers willing to contribute.

You could be part of the testing team. Don't worry, I won't put the testing session at the time when you are sleeping.

It would be like now, about 8:22 P.M. (in my area)

AlenL was at the last Serious Editing workshop (until he pinged out). If you are not able to be at those for timimg reasons, that doesn't help, of course.

And, several of the recent workshops never had anyone start talking - there was some trout slappng, but that was it.
