Default Grey Screen When I try to launch.

Hi. Like the Title says when I launch the game all I get is a grey screen. The demo worked just fine but the game itself won't. Same happens when I install the patch. I am in America but I noticed that the game someone gave me is not the American version there is no ESRB rating instead it is the PEGI. Does that effect which patch I should use or anything? Thanks.

The game is localized as well as the patch, so pick the right one for the version you own. (not sure where PEGI is used, a google search should turn that up)

Also, your graphics controller is not too gaming-friendly, the Quadro FXs are mainly meant for workstations and scientific calculations. All I can suggest there is to have the latest driver installed.

Thanks.Yea.This desktop is mainly used for 3Dsmax.
But I will install the correct patch and see if that makes a lick of difference. Kind of disappoiting that the site "can I run it" says I am good to go. And the demo worked just fine.

Yeah, the demo bit is what I find a bit puzzling. Perhaps there is a setting enabled in the demo but disabled in the full game, or they made some hardcoded changes prior to release. This one's not easy to nail down. . .

Try run the game after patching and report back.

I only find one patch. I dont see anything for region, theres only the language upon install. (English vs English UK or the only two choices for me that I'd understnad)

PEGI is the European standard, so if your copy is English it is the UK version.

Right. But it's all the same file it's just a difference in Language.

Reinstalled with the new language and still got the same grey screen. I just installed Far Cry just fine. ( I know it's totally different but it's a more graphically demanding game so I expected to have more problems with it)..I'll reboot and try again later..I s'pose or am I downloading a wrong file?

It isn't the patch that is causing problems, most likely.
Too bad there are no other games that utilize Serious Engine 2.0, it would be a good way of testing.

Open up Sam2.log in the root Serious Sam 2 folder and see if the game dumps any clues there. (assuming it goes far enough into the startup process to generate a log...)

I think I see what is going on. The game says it is still version 2.062 at the start of the log, but it is loading a gro file that comes with a later version. So my guess is that the ERR entries at the bottom are related to that. A version mismatch, to put it shortly.

Try delete Patch_02_068.gro and see what happens. And if that doesn't work/change anything, do a fresh reinstall of the game (uninstall completely, install again and then apply patch 2.070)

I have no idea why the game isn't being updated properly with the patch, though. Might be a wrong localization or something went wrong during the initial install.

At least it patched properly this time.
But there is not a single clue on why it freezes at that point. I'm afraid I got no more ideas. :-/

It is possible, but it is impossible to know for sure unless you feel like replacing it.

Alright. Thanks for all your help. I do appreciate it. I guess I'm have to charge up the laptop and try to play on that..Gotta find a place where I can mouse and keyboard it.

That is a good idea. If one computer doesn't do the trick, having access to another one will increase the odds in your favor.

That damn demo working fine is still bugging my mind though. If only software could answer questions. . .

A Quadro for gaming? Not recommended, using Open GL for SAM should give you a better performance over Directx however.
Otherwise pick a card that has better DirectX capability's.
ADDED: As to a work around I could only guess.
Perhaps in the config file, someone here may know something or even sending croteam an Email for assistance may prove fruitful.
Good luck.

It works on the laptop. Thanks for the help. Yea.This is definitely not the gaming computer. It's meant for 3Ds Max. But I wanted to try it since I prefer desktops. Thanks

I'm glad the laptop can run it.

But ZEN did bring up something that hadn't crossed my mind; maybe the use of DirectX is to blame. If you want to test it out, go to C:\...\Serious Sam 2\Content\SeriousSam2\ and open up Sam2.ini. In there find gfx_iAPI = 2 and change the value to 1 or 0. I have no idea what number represents which API, but I think it is likely that 1 is OpenGL, which is what we want to try.

In the previously posted log it said Content/SeriousSam2/Sam2.ini does not exist. And it does in fact not exist.

Wouldn't the game generate the file if it wasn't there anyway?
But if that doesn't go smoothly either, it would explain why the game freezes.

Default Re: Grey Screen When I try to launch.

Well then it just wasent installed which might explain the screen.
Guess your just going to have to pick up a new card.
You wont need anything fancy to play it but if you like to turn everything up you will have to spend some money.
But if your on a low budget...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130395
