Default Windows 7, faster than XP and Vista as of last build

ARStechnica looks at Windows 7 vs XP & Vista

Quote:
Neither of these computers is top of the line, but Windows 7 managed to outperform both Vista and XP on both. Kingsley gave a 1 to the operating system that finished each test first, a 2 for second place, and a 3 for third. Windows 7 scored 25 points on both systems, placing first in 21 tests, and second in two other ones. On the AMD system, XP scored 61 points and Vista scored 52, while on the Intel system, XP scored 56 points and Vista scored 57.
More in the article. At least Windows may have a real replacement for XP finally.

Also link to ZDNet article that did the test, with results

There's hope for the future yet. I'd love to have a new MS operating system with the solidness of XP.

Me too. If Win7 lives up to expectations, I won't hesitate to buy it for my next major upgrade.

interesting to see what they did with the drm. and before anyone says that drm is only activated on drm content, well, the entire vista architecture was built to support a drm 'protected' path, its there, sucking up memory, code jumping through extra calls, regardless of if it is used or not. i'd like to see how this has changed.

Well finaly it seems we will get new, solid ms OS. I tryed vista for shorter time, but it was just so bad (constant low memory errors, and other errors) it was just stupid. I could run crysis demo on it withoutany problems, but i did have problms installing software for example. At the end, i just switched back to xp and i'm still hapy with them.

Now if win 7 is really that fast, i won't have problems with using them (cause vista i will never, ever use).

I don't get it

Vista and XP, both strange names

So why Suddenly Windows 7?

Anyway I'll probably end up with it when I get a new comp (Just like with Vista)

Would be confusing if they have more operating systems with numbers though.

"Hey! Do you have Windows 14?"
"Er, is it the one with shitty cursors?"
"Nope, that's Windows 12."

I hope it's not as babysitting as Vista. I think I'll wait for this Windows 7 too, if possible, otherwise I'll be stuck with an outdated OS again when I buy a new comp.

well, lets just say poeple are divide in two groups:
1) those who had major problemy with vista
2) those who WILL have major problems with vista

lets face it, xp kicked vista's ass so hard it wasn't even funny, especially from performance part. I was looking at some testing (vista and xp) for apps like 3ds max, maya, XSI......xp was by faaaar better.

So i'll defenetly not use vista as long as i can use xp. Simply because it pwnz vista.

Now if half of what i hear about win 7 is true, i'll defenetly buy it.

I've had no problems and think it's the best OS yet. I however have a really beefy computer.

At work I've seen some pretty limp computers with vista and thats where I see the general public anger toward the OS.

Agreed. I have never had problems with Vista and don't expect I will. And let's face it, it's not like people never have/had problems with XP...

fiendan, you don't even know how true you are. You completly IGNORED the after that text. I think that's called 'self pwn'.

and sorry, but from my experience, and many others, xp is much faster, much more stable, and it defenetly don't annoy you with stupid 'low system memory' all the time, even while installing games or apps.

So it's not like i'm bashing vista just because i wouldn't have anything better to do. I tryed it, and it worked like crap. Tryed xp for the first time, long ago, loved it from the start.

it's not my fault you don't see the obvious joke. Did you really think i thought every single human being, walking on earth, will/already had problems with vista?

Fiendian just thinks that smileys mean the opposite of what they portray

Trust me, I know.

I mean why have smilies if somebody is going to ignore them or use the excuse "Smileys don't cover up the real emotion behind the post", despite the alternate name of 'emoticon'?

Bullshit basically.

You are awfully clueless for a person who knows. Now wipe the tears off your cheeks and lets get back to discussing Win7's superiority. That is the one subject me and Zocky can agree on.

well in any case, that was a joke. As i do know some happy vista customers.
But i myself just have bad experience with them, similar like with winME. I liked xp, i like win98SE, i like win2000 to a point(had some game problems, but was good other then that). But from my experience this was worst vista so far.
It's not like i want it to be bad. but from my experience, it was. and again, there was test comparing vista vs xp on maya, 3ds max and softimage XSI. Xp didn't just perform better (both 64bits versions), it completly outclassed vista. I posted link some time ago in these forums too.

So can you blaim me if i don't like vista because of really bad experience with it?

Now what i hear about new OS, sounds very sweet. The fact that i might even outperform XP, sounds even more awesome. I will still hold my judgement for the day when i actually try it, but so far it seems like win 7 is gonna be everything vista should be in the first place.
