Post Video Interview By GameSpot About Serious Sam 3: BFE

GameSpot has posted a video interview with Devolver Digital that includes some great gameplay footage. A very tired Nigel Lowrie, DD, answer some questions on some of Sam's new arsenal of weapons.
Quote:

Another way to get intimate with your enemies is with the trusty sledgehammer. This weapon could split a cyclops' head open with a single swing, or dispatch multiple enemies with a 360-degree spin attack. However, you'll need to be careful with that spin attack, since just watching it started to make us dizzy.

In addition to the sledgehammer, Serious Sam 3 is adding a few more new weapons to your arsenal. The first we tried out was the assault rifle. This weapon served two purposes: It cut down lesser enemies with ease at mid-range and doubled as a sniper rifle with its mounted scope. Next up was the explosive shotgun. Unlike a normal, non-explosive, shotgun, this weapon functioned as a lesser rocket launcher. It didn't pack the same punch, but it hit fast and didn't caused painful splash damage.

In Seriously! terms Sam has received the LD Banhammer of Doom. It will be interesting to see who is the first person to complete the game using only the sledgehammer. Read the article here.

I freaking love how the gnaars use their arms to run like gorillas. I love the entire gnaar redesign, it's just awesome.

Holy hell that was awesome! So much better than the teaser and Machinima interview. Now I know that CroGuys are doing it right.

I'm just more and more curious about Serious Sam 3 and the "new"-old-school gameplay feeling.
Developers at DD and CroTeam are also realy careful, and conscious... I mean they have not shown all the remodelled, and new enemies (BioMechs, Kleers, etc.) or new weapons (Rocket Launcer, Laser Gun...etc.) Just showed carefully some Rocketeers (with real badass-rockets) and Gnaars (whoa, nice job there ) fighting hopelessly against Sam in HUGE areas. How will those great areas will be filled with monsters? Ahh... but you all know: curiosity killed hordes of Mental's army.

And Nigel: Get some sleep
And Devs from CT and DD: keep up the great work on Serious Sam 3!!!

Yeah, I think Nigel and everyone else involved with the E3 demos deserve a round of applaus. I'm sure it was an exhausting and stressful time, but we all appreciate the new footage and information. And congratulations on all the positive impressions coming from the press, and pretty much everyone else that I've seen who got to play the game!

Glad you all enjoyed the E3 coverage! It was really a blast and we were glad to go out there and represent Croteam and Serious Sam well!

i hope this game doesnt overuse the brutality now, it was fun in the past but i hope it will stay to a funny splatter shooter instead of putting the splatter more to the front.

He's hoping that SS3 doesn't become a gore/horror game and instead is more lighthearted about the blood and guts flying everywhere. Like.. whatever happened to gibs being unidentifiable chunks of meat? Now in HD they are arms and legs... kinda morbid.

Graphics got better. Were they able to make the arms and legs etc. gibs back then, I think they would have. That does not make it more or less serious at all, simply more beautiful.

Or more unsuitable for younger audiences. Yes, the game is rated M for mature, but you know kids are playing it. Every developer of M-rated games knows and counts on that.

Pffft. Kids aren't going to be any more disturbed by SS:HD than they would the original versions. Both versions are perfectly suitable for most youngsters.

You put way too little faith in children.

In a better world my outlook would be more justified. Children shouldn't be seeing people dismembered. Even if they aren't real.

Yes, they should. Sheltering kids from creative expression just because you're afraid of the real world doesn't help anything.

The "better world" you speak of sounds oppressive and boring. I'll take the real one we live in any day.

Your concept of the real world is pretty warped if you think letting children watch bloodshed is normal. And it has nothing to do with creative expression at all. It has to do with establishing a modicum of decency and maintaining it from one generation to the next rather than letting moral decay from shifting culture to take it all away. If we keep going the way you are suggesting then one day we may consider Dahmer normal.

The soft pillows and luxuries of your convenient, sheltered, and privelaged lifestyle have warped you to the reality of the world, not the other way around.

I cannot stop laughing, seriously.

Any artist will tell you that the first quote is complete horeshit.
The second is such an abuse of the slippery slope fallacy it's not even funny. How do you go from: SS:HD -> Jeffery Dahmer? One fictiotious, one real. One killing aliens in war, one killing people for leisure. One a rapist, one saving humanity. AHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Plus you're talking about what's normal for adults to do in the real world, vs what's okay for kids to see in a fictional video game. Those are two entirely separate things! Should GTA be banned because kids can play it and it depicts adults breaking the law and... gasp... killing people? Please say "yes."

You guys, do realize that most developers, probably just get their games rated, because, they don't want anyone sewing them that a 5 year old has been playing the game, and there was nothing telling them not to play, so they didn't know it was wrong.

I was unaware Dahmer played video games. I thought he just liked to have sex with dead guys.

Millions of people play violent video games every day and don't go out shooting/eating people.

Jeffery Dahmer was a man who decided to kill other men and have sex with their corpses, as they wouldn't stay with him. And then he would eat them, thinking "They became a part of him"
Very sick individual. He was finally caught, as one of his victims escaped and made it to help. He was later beaten to death by his cell-mate.
