Post Serious Sam 3 Interviews with Croteams Davor Hunski

Blistered Thumbs has posted an extensive interview with Davor Hunski, creative lead on Serious Sam 3: BFE (or as he puts it himself Programmer/Game Designer/Level Designer/Artist/Will-do-anything-in-the-name-of-game-love). The interview covers everything from why the game is a prequel, to the weapons and gameplay mechanics, to the indie titles. When asked about accessibility Davor explained that Serious Sam 3: BFE will be for everyone - from players who are new to the game to the hardcore franchise fans. Below is part of his answer.
Quote:
To answer your question, though, Serious Sam 3: BFE is very accessible to players of all skill levels and experience. Arcade-style shooters like Serious Sam allow for a more even playing-field in versus play and we aim to keep the gameplay simple and fluid, so anyone can jump in on the chaotic fun in our games. It’s just you, a pile of guns and your aim, so we think that anyone can pick-up Serious Sam 3: BFE and have a good time!

Head on over to Blistered Thumbs for the rest of the interview.

FPSGuru interviewed Davor at the end of July, talking about the development of Serious Sam 3: BFE, multiplayer, and weapons and combat. Among other things, FPSGuru asked Davor whether BFE would be more like Serious Sam 1 or Serious Sam 2. Davor assured them that the ways of old will be back in Serious Sam 3: BFE and that there'll be plenty of secrets to keep us exploring.

Davor Hunski: Serious Sam 3: BFE is going back to its roots, more like the original games (SS1 and HD). There will be plenty of secrets for fans to find throughout the whole game.

Good to see some indepth answers coming out now. It's unlike other development interviews where they're all hushed and can't tell you anything. The mutilators still getting the pass-by reference. I'm kinda curious as to what it does as well. Perhaps it will be the Sam 3 version of a physics gun but... gorier?

A gravity gun which enables you to pull out gnaar's eye from a distance and shot it at another enemy.

How about pulling out a Gnaar's eye and putting it into another Gnaar. Two eyed Gnaars!

I keep imagining the mutilator is like the cerebral bore from the turok games. Or that nano gun thing from the PS2 / Gamecube versions.

I've honestly been getting the impression it's this rediculously powerful sirian plasma weapon that unleashes a massive beam that destroys everything in it's path, kinda like an ultra kamehameha or something

I'd like to think it's a BFG combined with the Painkiller Staff...

So I guess it'd be a BFG shooting balls of porcupine grenades?... Or something like that...

In any case it has to shoot spiky things that mutilate things!

yeah I think you might be on to something Vasile.
To Mutilate would be to:
1. To deprive of a limb or an essential part; cripple.
2. To disfigure by damaging irreparably.
3. To make imperfect by excising or altering parts.
So basically the Sirian mutilator will be a combination of some kind of contraption that can disfigure/rip apart enemies and a plasma based feed since it was developed by the sirians.
