Default Fantastic Arcade (Destructoid) - Interesting Preview

http://www.destructoid.com/fantastic...t-212439.phtml
Check this one out. He said some very interesting things.

"The game does feel a bit too much like Modern Warfare, but since this level recalled obsessively playing the favela level in Special Ops, I won’t hold it against Croteam." - What? How is this anything like Modern Warfare?

"Fans will be happy to hear that the classic laser gun is in the final game and it's as great as it ever was." - Woah! Hell yes! I just hope this isn't another mistake, like the Chainsaw is in the game accident. I am really excited to see my Laser.

Serious Sam games always seem to overstay their welcome. They are fun at first but become repetitive and tiresome.
What does this mean ?

Serious Sam 3 feels like it's taking great strides to change that -- to the point where I may no longer think of it as Painkiller’s inferior companion.
Is this even English ?

Yes, it is... he's saying that he always thought Serious Sam was inferior to Painkiller, but Serious Sam 3 is changing his mind.

Oh, don't be a smart ass, Viper. Hehe.

Yes, I thought the guy was speaking gibberish too, Antonio, but it none the less still an interesting preview. At least it is actually new and says something different.

Inferior to Painkiller? For me most battles in Serious Sam games are much more fun than any fight in Painkiller... Also wasn't Painkiller released AFTER Serious Sam TFE/TSE?...

Also the part about level design... While SS2 wasn't exactly up my alley, SS TFE/TSE had great level design!

I didn't mean it that way, I just didn't have any trouble understanding what he meant in those quotes and thought I'd explain it. Sorry if I came off as a smart ass.

Yeah, I don't agree with a lot of the things he said. FE and SE had great level design, and Painkiller was largely influenced by Serious Sam. It's almost like saying Doom is Serious Sam's little brother.

Haha, I was just kidding with you, Viper--I got what you were saying.
And yes, Painkiller IS Serious Sam's little brother imo. Also, to be completely honest with you, I thought Painkiller's mapping was pretty amateurish...
Great game though.

You didn't get the joke Viper.

Even though TFE & TSE didn't have much level variety like Painkiller or SS2, battles were very well designed and challenging so the game never felt tiresome.

Painkiller may have better graphics and physics, but IMO it can't compete with SS1 gameplay.

Yeah, I agree with you, again, Antonio. The graphics aren't better in my opinion though. The physics, on the other hand, are outstanding. I love them. SS1 had great level variety! More than PK I think. PK was just demented hellish stuff. SS1 had more diverse types. Well, when we're only comparing to the original PK.

The guy writing the preview sounds like a huge prick and his constant comparisons between it and CoD are eye-rollingly dumb, but the info about the Laser Gun returning is great.

^ Yah, he said he felt the game "[feels] a bit too much like Modern Warfare"? Really? He was just talking about crazy aliens, crazy guns, and then says its like MW? Can a game not have a desert setting anymore without being compared to MW? The first MW only had like 4 main American missions in the desert anyways, with Black Ops having like...none.

Ah well, in the end, it was still a positive review. Great news to see the laser gun coming back. I wonder if it'll work any different than the first games.

Oh, and I actually felt Painkiller is the one that got repetitive much faster than SS. I've played SS over and over, but after I beat Painkiller once, I didnt feel like getting back into it. Though maybe that's because I ended on a sour note because of the Battle Out Of Hell expansion...god...that expansion was infuriatingly annoying. Love the core of the game though.

I guess Modern Warfare has become a term that generally describes any enviornment that looks slightly realistic/urban where you fight among other things human-like enemies and have an assault rifle...

Now let's see... SS3: Assault rifle, check. Humanoid enemies, well, there are rocketeers and those soldiers marching in the trailer there - check I guess. Urban settings? Well it has em, so check!

There you go! SS3 is "exactly" like Modern Warfare! Because clearly Croteam didn't use the real Egypt as inspiration for level design or whatever but instead copied Modern Warfare!

...and really? Comparing the Favela from Modern Warfare 2 with Cairo in Egypt?!... Those two are on opposite corners of the world so to speak, one is in a tropical area while the other is in the bum ****in desert...

It can't be bad. It's becoming apparent that even Yahtzee Kroshaw is looking forward to Serious Sam 3, he surely mentions it alot.

I really hope Yahtzee does a review on Serious Sam 3 when it's out. Else I'm gonna be Seriously disappointed... (Still waiting to see if he'll do Hard Reset any time soon... Probably not though.)

Yes, this guy is a bit over the top. And yes, ANY game with a desert environment IS* a Call of Duty game. Practically just a rip off! I think Croteam has made a TERRIBLE* mistake! /sarcasm.
I do hope the Laser Gun doesn't lag in multiplayer anymore, please!

Actually ANY game with a desert environment is a Dune rip off... So Croteam basically ripped off something
(Modern Warfare)
which is itself a ripoff! /sarcasm
(Am I doing it right?...)

Come to think of it... there probably are more desert - based games between Modern Warfare and the Dune books...

Does Fallout 1's wasteland count as a dessert? It sort of was a dessert if I remember correctly... So there! Fallout is ripping off Dune and Mad Max, Modern Warfare is ripping off Fallout, and Serious Sam 3 is totally ripping off all of the above. Everything is ripping everything else!

If a game is using a desert environment it is ripping off real life. I said it.

Fallout 1's dessert is very delicious, though maybe a little too sweet for my taste.
