Default Planet Infersal - SE - Single player

This is a loose sequel to Abandoned Empire. I say "loose sequel", because there's only a mild contextual connection between the two and you don't have to play one to understand what's going on.

It's four maps long, with a huge variety of environments, from forests and catacombs, to volcanic caves. I also listened to some of the criticisms to the previous pack.

It takes place on an unknown planet, among the ruins of a long gone civilization. It's still atmosphere focused and experimental, but this time I at least knew exactly what I was going for.

Some pictures.

Yeah no. Although I should be getting a new computer by the next few years or so, maybe Steam will like that one.

It looks really nice, I like your style, though the lighting looks a bit bland at times, you use grey lights a lot. Also, what's the average polygon cluster size?

Edit: Also funny, I was wondering how your map pack was 100+ MB, and as it turns out, you extracted your gro files to a subfolder with the name of the gro file, therefore needlessly redistributing default game files. I.e., you extracted the SE1_00_Music.gro to the SE1_00_Music folder in your Sam directory, had you extracted all the content of the gro files to your Sam directory you only had to distribute your custom files, making the gro archive 20+ MB smaller.

Yeah, the gro extraction thing was a problem with his first campaign as well. Took some time to figure out what was the problem, and in the end, it turned out the only way to fix it was to include the official files in the gro like this.

Will play it once I have the time. Maybe I'll make a Revolution version too, like the first one.

Yeah this time I didn't bother very much with the lightning. I thought the grey lights were good enough. Sort of gave a dead and empty atmosphere instead of lively and mysterious one.

As Solais said. That was a problem with the other one too. I already started making it when I realized, that I extracted wrongly.

Yeah, that would be nice.

This looks pretty damn great. Much better than most SS1 maps I've played so far. The pic before the last looks so Unreal

p.s. oh, there's even a download link, I should try it when I fix my PC

That, and the NETRICSA textures take around 43% of the whole size, because you used 1024x1024 instead of 512x512. If did that, the size of the whole gro would've been halved.

Anyway, don't take my post badly, it looks interesting and I'm definitely gonna play it in the near future... I'm just pointing out some things you might not have noticed.

nothing wrong with 1024 nettie textures imo, you can see all the detail on a modern monitor so why not I go with 2048 skybox textures

Sure, it doesn't matter to me, but Captain_Russia might throw a hissy fit when he hears a 100+ MB Serious Sam Classic map pack.

Oh my, I didn't know they mattered so much. That's definitely something I will pay attention to in the future.

So, while watching AGDQ, I had some time to waste, and my toothache wasn't that bad either, so did a quick Revolution version: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfil.../?id=592095744
