That's interesting, because there were no screens or such released of Black Mesa's Xen. I wonder where you seen it then.

I think there was a bit of Xen added into Questionable Ethics.

Hmm, okay. Didn't recall. But the devs said that there's a bunch of new stuff they are adding, even a working food chain and a lot of animated... things.

Yep, there was. Pretty detailed, too.
Questionable Ethics was one of the best Black Mesa chapters imho.

It's a shame if that's the case. I want to know how Mental originally looked like in the alpha.
Ah, well, at least we got some levels from Zdzichu.

We kind of already do, since mental.mdl was originally Mental's model before given to the Croteam Bigheads.

Also, Solais told me that Mental and some key levels (Space Station 02, Sky City, Mental's Tomb) are not included in the alpha (I suspect Croteam removed all references to Mental there, but it could simply be that they aren't made yet).

SLAwww is too busy at Croteam from working on SS4, so development's slowed down. I wish Croteam could have given him more time to work on SSO. Programmer-Mapper is a hard combo to come by and currently he understands SE1 more than anyone else in the world (except the original programmers).

Not exactly, the Mental.mdl might be simply a part of it, because:

Combo with this...

My guess is that CT could actually find inspiration in Half-Life, because if you ask me, the Mental.mdl sorta reassembles Nihilanth.

Or the first model was really a brain in a jar, later transformed into humanoid form with bigger brain, or CT simply named it like that for lulz.

SS1 models aren't built whole, but formed together from multiple pieces. SDK files show that it had attachments for a brain jar and tubes as well. mental.mdl also have unused animations for floating in the brain jar and climbing out of the brain jar before dying.

Wow, really? It does have animations for that? Wait, Imma check.

It has two "bowl" animations.

BOWLREST and BOWLJUMP

First one looks like he's swimming inside of it, the jump animation looks like he's doing a flip.
I think we should add this to the cutting room floor wiki if you haven't already!
I'm gonna check if any other model has unused animations!

If you ask me, the second animation looks more like he is jumping out of the jar, due to "swimming" animation at start, but he looks really static at the end of that animation, like he's not in any fluid anymore.

Maybe it's a placeholder? They both look a bit stiff.

Well, at the point where Mental was considered a final boss most enemies were in it's early stage of development, so I guess these animations would be upgraded.

i think the "jumping out of jar" animation is when he is taken out from the jar by a robot arm or something like that

Nice though with the animations but i was wondering what happened to his neck then I saw that attachment vector (noticed). Anyway the big head does remind me of that Nilhilanth guy from Half-Life.. The only difference is it is fatter.. And that thing what they said about mental having brain tubes coming out of his brain that reminds me of splitting Nilhanths head open.. That boss is a pain sometimes...

'That guy' in the comments is our very own Wytas. Too bad he doesn't hang around anymore.

Good news. Could mean we get an Alpha/Work in Progress only too.

Experience comes from Doom Fall of Mars Development progress.

OT: Someone should write a Tutorial about howto advertise your stuff. Give people a Page with Screens and basic infos, updates at progress so People can talk about.
If nobody knows you are working at the greatest mod/game of all time, how you wanna get attention?
