Default Model editing question

I use serious editor 1. So i will try to explain in as clear as possible. If i replace .mdl file of, for example, a zorg soldier, without editing the bones or animation, will it work properly? I mean i dont need an animation, i only need a enemy that hovering around without animation but still rotating in different directions. Or i can go another way and somehow make this enemy invisible and parent model to it? Thanks in advance, i will appreciate any kind of information.

Depends on what version you're using. If you do that in original retail version the game will most likely crash due to missing animation data. Revolution will just swap missing animation with default one and I think (not sure) it's the same for steam versions.
If you find two models that have the same animation names it should work.

ps. serious editor 1 uses morph animations not skeleton based ones.

Im using non-official 1.1 Evolution patch. But i think its not that a big difference. What about making them invisible? Maybe textures? or ingame feature? anything? Can i not replace but edit the model so that original model is invisible but still have the same animation data and another model on top of it? Im just trying to brainstorm. Anyway its allready enough, thank you. But topic is still open for any kind of advice

If you want to make model invisible open it in serious modeler. Press "Z" to display surface selection window. There you can select parts that you want to be invisible or select everything for the whole model. Then press "Q" and go to Rendering tab. Then just check "Invisible" option and save the model.
