Default Re: The Great Pyramid vs The Grand Cathedral vs Mental Institution

Ok another statement: I don't think that Mental Institution is so original.

Explanation:

The level itself is huge, but the architecture is just boring and repetitive. I mean, you only have:

- Weird statues
- Boring walls over and over and over and over and over....
- Occassionally some trees which don't really fit in there
- One building (at the beginning of the level)
- Grass! Only Grass!!! No dust, no gravel, no stones, only plain grass!
- The huge pyramid-thingy is nice, but it seems like it was done under pressure on one day

The level definately looks like it was done under pressure, I mean look at all the repetitive things listed above.

The Great Pyramid was great, The Grand Cathedreal was great, but Mental Insitution is only great on the first time. After playing the level, I don't want to play it again, sorry (no offense!).

And as you've said that Croteam has added the "boss"-fight only for the PC version (the xbox doesn't have it as you said), I rather wanted that CT has left it out of the PC version, too because the fight itself is boring, there is only a building driving onwards and chasing you, plus it spits out some fighters which are just plain annoying .

No offense guys, but I hope that Croteam adds a better ending level/boss level to SS3

Those fighters gave me a major headache. They fly at crazy speeds, making it rather difficult to hit them.

Good statements i agree with the most stuff written here: Serious Sam 1 end-level with urg-zahn is something of its own and absolut awesome, especially playing it for the first time ...WOW hes big i loved it

Grand Cathedral was also very cool ..there is really a HUGE amount of enemies, it was hardcore when they also came from the back and entering the Big empty place with the fortress with Giant Lava-Golem plus additional 2 Big Reptiloids were 1 of them was its own Boss in Serious Sam 1 (FE) it just doesnt want to stop ..BIGGER, LONGER, MORE ENEMIES and the very long fight at the fortress with Meteroids falling down was a challenge, as said it just doesnt want to stop. The final boss then: Mordekai was a bit dissapointing.. he was too easy and i want to fight the boss and not the same Enemies again.
But the best was the whole "pre-play" before you come to the Big cathedral ! You start in a snow level, with some of the cooles Serious Sam 1 music ever, its snowing and then you go in a cave full of lava ! What a Theme-change ! and just awesome for the first time.. and then you enter a very mysterious cool looking teleporter and find yourself on a Giant, slippery Ice-Field (just the ice-castle was missing and it would be like a dream) but the stone-fortress in the middle also looked AWESOME !

Serious Sam 2.. i dont want to give a comment to it ..i cant.. Just one: Too much Bombs !!!

Yes BM, UghZan was really pretty big and at least a lot harder than Mordekai. I needed 5 tries to defeat Ugh Zan, Mordekai was killed with the first try.

Mordekai is just a moving enemy spawner. Ughzy was TOUGH! As soon as he entered the battlefield you knew you were up for a long fight.

Well, music is an important aspect of the gameplay too. I can't imagine you playing RPG games with heavy metal on the background... The music is meant to make you feel you're inside the game, to inspire you, and to make the athmosphere (sp?) better.

For example, both Mental Institution's and Grand Cathedral's music is very, very athmospheric. If you replaced those tracks with generic heavy metal, no doubt it would make you feel less inspired.

Depends on the game, of course. For online coop and DM, it's okay to have some music on the background. But I would never, ever play a SP game without listening to the game's music as well.

And if you review a game or a map/mod, you should give some points for good music as well. Good game/map/mod may have bad music, bad game/map/mod may have nice music, etc...

That depends. I probably could imagine some RPGs with Heavy Metal or at least Rock. In fact, I hate these synthie & strings music like in Oblivion, Morrowind or whatever. I just can't hear it, as it doesn't has any variations.

Just synthie pads and electronic strings. A product of missing imagination of the composer.

TGP/TGC are one of the less levels I play with Winamp stopped.

That depends on your point of view. If the athmosphere is perfect, I also play games with their original music.

For example, Gothic 1 has had great atmosphere (still today) and the music just kicks ass, though it was produced by some low-variated computer music tracker. But the music just makes you feel lonely and... great!

Well then I could say that some heavy metal tracks have no variation at all, but it's a matter of opinion of course...

Music also announces you about approaching enemy (well, of course you don't need it if you play on Tourist )
Do you turn off game sounds too?

1. I play first on Easy, and then after passing the game, I switch to Normal, then to Hard and so on.

2. Are you crazy??? Playing without sfx?

That also depends. What you mean, is mainstream metal. I rather enjoy listen to all across from Generic Metal to Gothic, Doom, Heavy and Power/Epic Metal.

FW, just click here to see what music I listen.

EDIT: I have that parts on my emu since 4 years, so I surely know the game
But it is hard
