Post Awesome Games Done Quick will be speedrunning The Talos Principle!

Awesome Games Done Quick will be hosting a 100% complete speedrun of The Talos Principle starting today at 9:55 PM (3:55 AM CET on January 6th) for cancer research. The target time is one hour and 40 minutes. There will also be a bonus incentive speedrun of the Road to Gehenna DLC done in 30 minutes if enough donations are received during The Talos Principle's speedrun.

When The Talos Principle speedrun starts, you can watch the speedrun on AGDQ's Twitch channel.

What an inappropriately stupid time for Europeans

They probably didn't get a choice when to do it.

Nope. If you look at the schedule, there are a bunch of games, and there are different segments. Interestingly, Talos is in the "Shooter" segment. So yeah, they really had no choice.

Cool idea, but I'm not getting up at 4 in the morning to watch it.

For any other fellow Europeans who missed it, here's the VoD: http://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick/...939?t=5h47m30s

I've been watching it for a while and it's quite amazing.

I'm rather surprised I had never discovered the backwards item boost jump thing myself, heh. It allows for all sorts of crazy shenanigans!

Also, the ease with which Azorae just climbs on the slipper-slope surfaces amazes me. I know I tried jumping off such surfaces and never managed to do anything remotely interesting with it.

Edit: Also it's amazing that the "pick up the jammer from the other side of a blue barrier" trick still works, considering we specifically tested to make sure you can't do that. To be fair though, the positioning for executing the trick seems extremely tight!

I watched it live, even donated, but I was only mentioned after the run was over.

The only thing which I'd take as something seriously needs fixing is the box catapult trick he used in Goliath. Because that's quite the thing.

Yes, let's fix the only Croteam game that is actually watchable when done quick.

I found you could do this trick with purple barriers originally, and it was fixed (you just can't interact with objects while intersecting the barrier, now)... never thought to try with forcefields themselves, since you have to open the forcefield to even do it

To be fair, it seems like most the skips involved really precise jumps (getting on walls) / framerate manipulation to pull off... not bad

Yeah, I'm completely okay with all the other skips.

But the catapult, while hilarious, kinda seems like if it was a little too broken.

Wow. I managed to watch up to just entering World C before I had to stop the video. I will have to watch the rest of it later. Definitely can tell there has been quite a few improvements from the last speedrun I watched (just a few months after the release). The things like framerate locking to make an otherwise impossible jump is pretty incredible. Crazy how people discover these kinds of things

These are the kinds of people you need on your beta testing team.

Alright, I watched the rest of it, quite the amazing feat! With speedruns of any kind, it just blows my mind all this manipulations and tricks people discover in order to shave a couple seconds off their time. Amazing!

What makes it even more impressive is that The Talos Principle has a relatively lower player base than, say, Portal. And yet some of these crazy manipulations are discovered. Things such as pushing the buttons on the elevator to trick the checkpoint system. What I found most impressive was the "slide jump" or whatever he called it used to smuggle items to the other side of a purple barrier using a precise sequence of button commands. Looked like voodoo magic

Yeah, was quite a thing when the whole thing started on the steam forums after release. I didn't know what to do with all this, report it to CT or leave it be. In a way, it became half-half: Fixing easy exploits, but leaving the hard ones.

Too bad most of the exploits was found by a certain person who pretty much shits on the game whenever possible. (Especially because these exploits exist. Also because apparently the game is too easy.)
