Default The Forgotten City

The Forgotten City Version 1.4 Workshop

By: Solais
Much, so much help: Mischievous
Additional help: SeriousAlexej, Sapz, all beta testers and everyone who provided me feedback and bug reports even after release.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

>DOWNLOAD VERSION 1.4 from Steam Workshop<

Fixed Secret Guide, the one in the archive has one secret missing.

Instructions:

- NOTICE: Fusion DLC is required to play the levels!

- NOTICE: Bind the Use/Ride action to a key.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is it. After 10 months, my great project - started as the very first level I ever made - is finished.

Story:

In the timeline, the story takes place just after The Grand Cathedral, where Sam acquired the other Sirian spaceship to finally reach Sirius... only to find out that it's out of fuel. Karma being a b*tch, he now have to teleport back to one of the hidden Sirian laboratories on Earth, Site 42, to find some fuel.

This pack contains:
- Five long levels of mayhem!
- 4-5 hours of gameplay!
- Shitload of enemies! In Coop and Serious Difficulty, it's more than 15000+!
- New kind of enemies! The map supports both my Enemy Variations Pack and Mischievous' SS2 Spider pack!
- Secrets, and mega secrets to unlock, that helps you on the final level! Also, a Secret Level!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.1 Change Log:

General

- Accidentally made a new enemy. Will appear in co-op mode only on the levels "The Village" and "The Junkyard" and normally on the secret level.
- Gave all the talking proper subtitles, just like the quotes in the normal game. This will give them subtitles with a bigger font, and make sure that they only show up once.
- Grammar have been fixed in the NETRICSA messages.
- Secret Level added. Try to find it!
- Some other things I probably can't remember.

The Village

- An elevator have been added to the hole leading up to the surface. The hole's slope have also been made unclimbable. This elevator will also seal up the hole, so players can't exploit it. The hole will open up after finding the 9th secret switch (the one also spawning the extra enemies for backtracking).
- The Egypt secret area have been redesigned, so only a few special, golden enemies drop items. With this, the save-crash bug is mostly fixed, but it can be still possible to happen, only with less probability. Also the area is more harder, but respawning items have been placed in the fort.
- More ammo have been placed at the beginning of the level, but only for Serious difficulty.
- Gnaar spawning in the Ruin Garden area have been fixed.
- Buggy texture from the houses have been removed.
- Disappearing enemies bug have been fixed.

Water Temple

- All door exploits have been hopefully fixed.
- Missing wall at the beginning have been fixed.
- Debug message in the Rising Water area have been removed.
- Barriers have been added to the Hanging Water Test room, so you won't miss the Laser Gun.

The Junkyard

- Door exploit have been hopefully fixed.
- Invisible ground in the cutscene have been fixed.
- In the level select menu, this level will show its proper thumbnail now.

The Battlefield

- Cutscene breaking have been fixed.
- Spawning enemies have been added to the boss fight to make it harder.
- Boss HP have been fixed. For some reason it changed back to the value from half a year ago, what was just too little.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.1.5 Change Log:

Notice: Most of these fixes are only hopeful, as they are fixes to multiplayer, something I cannot test readily. I could only see what the bugs were, and fixed it knowing its nature.

General

- Several subtitling bugs have been fixed.

The Village

- After accessing the lift at the beginning, a teleport will spawn, so other players can continue as well.
- [Multiplayer]Fixed premature boss spawning.
- [Multiplayer]Placed more chapters/respawn points when backtracking to the desert secret.

Water Temple

- Some debug messages removed
- Laser Gun not appearing fixed.
- [Multiplayer]Placed more respawn points so the bubble jumping is less irritating.

The Junkyard

- All deadly pits are deadly again
- [Multiplayer]Most of the barrels were removed in multiplayer, as they were causing Ye Olde SS2 Server Crash.

The Biosphere

- [Multiplayer and/or Serious]Enemies spawning outside the final area have been hopefully fixed.
- Coop teleport spawning too early have been fixed.
- New music added to the boss fight.
- Boss fight slightly redesigned.

The Battlefield

- [Multiplayer]Some coop-only enemies haven't been spawning. Fixed.
- [Multiplayer]Hopefully fixed the Third Megasecret's switch spawning too early.
- Item spawning in the final arena have been fixed.
- Secret messages popping up endlessly have been fixed.
- Herobrine have been removed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.1.6 Change Log:

The Biosphere:

- Enemy spawning have been adjusted.
- Serious Bombs added to Serious Difficulty.
- Adjusted boss fight.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.1.6a Change Log:

- Fixed loading a saved game bug on the first level.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.2 Change Log:

- [Multiplayer]Coin-op treasures have been added to the levels.
- [Multiplayer]Fixed the invisible shots of the small spider and the Reptiloid King
- Fixed the lightning in the desert area of the first level.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.2a Final Change Log:

- Fixed some local models not showing up in coop
- Removed Dark Jungle survival map

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.3 AfterFinal Change Log:

- Adjusted some enemy spawns on the levels
- Implemented a safety-net teleport under the final arena of "The Biosphere" level to fix the enemies falling out of the arena bug
- The Third Mega Secret is now supposed to be available in Single Player as well
- Secrets Guide text file added

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.4 Workshop Change Log:

- Fixed up the cutscenes in the Fort Area of the first level
- Added a Coop only teleport to skip the first Hanging Waters puzzle
- Added Barrier to final level to keep the harpies in the arena
- Various other fixes

Copyright: The music of the secret level is a rearranged version (only available in Japan, and only in doujin shops) of a song from a doujin/indie Japanese game (only available in Japan, and only in doujin shops), found on youtube, apparently cut from a bigger song by the uploader, then further butchered by me using Audacity. I think if that doesn't say that it's on the gray side of the copyright laws, then dunno what does.

Bugs:

While we took our time to find everything, there still can be small, or even crippling big bugs out there that we didn't find. Report these and I'll fix them when I come back from my vacation.

NOTICE: Some bugs are features.

Yeah it is down. Nevermind then, I'll play after my well-deserved vacation. (I'll still have internet, I can see if there'll be some bugs and stuff, and feedback. Just not strong enough lappy to play on it.)

I need some rest anyway.

Congrats on your map Solais!!!! After 10 months of hard work you deserve some holiday, and bunch drinking !

I've tried it last night on serious mode, and..whoa, it's challenging a lil' bit. I'm right now in the valley where the first werebulls appear with hordes of kleers. It's a bit hard to destroy such an enermous swarm with the shotgun, barelled shotgun and 8 rockets. Should i try it on normal mode? It would be just soooo gay

Do not worry, it's certainly not "gay" on Normal either. Serious was never really intended for singleplayer play anyway, I just kinda sorta tried to make it that way later, without really testing it.

I downloaded and tried this, and I must say, EPIC. Congrats Solais and Michevious! It is excellent, almost a full campaign by today's standards! Amazing work, and hard as hell! I love the remix for the first level. These maps are MASSIVE too. Just amazing work guys, keep it up! Anyone free for Co-Op sometime?

Good!

Actually, it would be great if I could see a video walkthrough of it or something.

Also who played it through already? And who found all the secrets?

There are some bugs that i noticed:
*Some kleers in the open aereas block on rocks.
*In the part with wooden stuff on the houses, I stayed behind an house and i killed the mountain reptiloid easly because it didn't see me.
*In the second level, I'm blocked between a dark wall and a closed door and I don't know how to go ahed.

Those are not bugs but suggestions...
Good things:
*I like that there are new enemies
*Good level design

Bad things:
*There are too much enemies in each area so it can be boring kill all of them, you
should put theme trought the level.
*I think you should put some serious speed in the first level because it's a bit boring to explore.

This is kind of an engine/AI bug, can't really fix that, it happend on other user made maps as well. There's a way around and I may add it in a later patch, though it's kind of troublesome.

Using the environment to your advantage is not a bug.

At the very beginning, after the first water elemental? That is not a bug, but a feature~.

Enemy count won't change, that's the appeal of the stage. At least one of them. And I think they are spread oout enough on the stages.

I may put down some serious speeds, but then again, the original maps were "boring" too to explore, without any serious speeds. They are usually there only to help the battle, not finding the secrets less bothersome. Remember TFE and their long desert walks to find a secret.

I'm stuck there too, I don't know what we have to do. Please, can you help us ? Because I can't continue those amazing levels now

Anyway, the first level was really nice. It was challenging, level design is really good, monsters are in good numbers, and the level was very long (It tooks me 2h ~) but I'm sure I didn't finished it because after I picked up the 2 masks, there is a big door in an area, and behind it I've seen that there is a canon and that the level continue... But I don't know how to go there, the door doesn't want to be open. What should I do to go there ? Is there somewhere where I have to put the two masks ?

Ps 1 : In that first level, I've find 8/10 secrets ;(

Ps 2 : here are some things I've seen that you could maybe improve a little bit :
1) ->http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/598/2011081900002.th.jpg
In the area where there is the first mask, we can go at the top of the house and use the bridge, but the ropes are 'flying'.

2) -> http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/2980/2011081900003.th.jpg
In that place, there are too much gnaars. They are spawning one by one, it took me maybe 10-15 minutes to kill them one by one... Maybe you should make them spawning 2 by 2, or 4 by 4, I don't know, but 1 by 1 is really too slow. (I've killed maybe 100-150 gnaars one by one... xD)

3) -> http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/7523/2011081900005j.th.jpg
At the beginning of the second level, if we try to return to the first level by using the looooong stairs, when we reach the top, there is this bug.

Ps 3 : I tested the survival level. Seems nice, the atmosphere is great, and the new monsters are awesome, I think I should try it with some friends

Eclipse.

There's a switch in the room with dark wall.

Large door open only when you come back there in 4th level.
Also, it looks like not many people read map description

You're in an ancient temple-thing with torches and a hidden door. Figure it out from here. Think adventure games.

In the area where there is the first mask, we can go at the top of the house and use the bridge, but the ropes are 'flying'.
You're not supposed to be there. Will fix.

In that place, there are too much gnaars. They are spawning one by one, it took me maybe 10-15 minutes to kill them one by one... Maybe you should make them spawning 2 by 2, or 4 by 4, I don't know, but 1 by 1 is really too slow. (I've killed maybe 100-150 gnaars one by one... xD)
At least 5 should spawn at the same time. I might have changed something when I balanced the fight, but changed it badly. Will fix.

At the beginning of the second level, if we try to return to the first level by using the looooong stairs, when we reach the top, there is this bug.
That shouldn't happen, but I think I know the answer to that bug as well. Will fix.

Thanks for the feedback!

I tried it on Serious difficult and it was almost impossible, but i have finished it. Thats a extreme map you got, Solais.
I am trying it now on Mental!
I wish here would be more difficulties like "SERIOUS EXTREME!!!" and in the description it says: Really?
i wouldn't do that!
