Do you not get it? The point of Serious Sam Origins is to not remake, but finish what CT started, using only original assets. They are not remaking anything, but rather finishing what is incomplete in the alpha. Therefore, finished assets like the old Sam model are kept as-is.

So using final assets would be against the point of the mod, since this is supposed be like from an alternate universe where CT never bothered to update the graphics and just finishing the alpha stuff.

No, it's not. I'm not playing old games because I want to look at their shitty graphics, I'm playing them because I enjoy the gameplay mechanics or the story or both, but if something can be done to improve the graphics, like modding them with high-res textures and high-poly models, I do it.

If the gameplay is good, then I won't really care about the graphics at all. Unless it's stuff like a proper widescreen mod, which would require source ports like ZDoom. Otherwise old graphics don't bother me.

And are they really shitty? For me, the quality of the graphics is not only the resolution it's saved in, but also the way it's made in the first place. So say, Revenants have a great matching color scheme, so although their sprites are dated, they will never look as bad as Daikatana Green.

Though if the "finishing what Croteam started" statement is true, then there should be no grass/crumbs on the Green Planet level, because the engine didn't support that till TSE.

SLAwww does whatever the fuck he wants.

But really, if that statement is not true, how else would you describe SSO? That's literally what they called it on their old Facebook page and the first trailer. Like, come on people:

That's an exaggeration. The environments and cutscenes are as cheesy as the Sam's model.

From that I guess the CT wanted SS to be cheesy in the first place?

So why did TFE become mostly-serious?

Also i love how sam falls in that intro. i like how he's in the standing animation

The trees look weird there. Isn't that the Boss Dragonman place in Green Planet? iirc there wasn't any trees in Kazuya's video. Also, it's evening there too when it was daytime during Kazuya's vid. Perhaps those shots are taken around Test 1's time?

Its going to be fun to see how many people will say that the new cutscenes are actually beta material a few years down the line.

Nah, I think it's pretty obvious that the cutscenes are not official. Not to mention now that the alpha is leaked, it's easy to see what's what and people will eventually get to see all the SS1 documents once SSO is released.

It's still alive, and it seems very tense right now so it's best to leave 'em alone till they are comfortable with news again.

I think you meant to say 2 years and 8 months old

The devs are very much active, working on things here and there. The latest update from the team (which is last year, May 2015) says that they are still creating the essential assets and the polishing phase is to come later.

While I still have plenty of faith that they can get the job done, one must wonder what they were thinking when they thought they could release it in December 2013 - June 2014.

I thought that Origins would of been close to complete by now.. they should release stuff like pre release or something just for a bit of gameplay like 1 or 2 or a few levels ..

Well technically, the alpha's already leaked, so that's sorta a demo for Origins

I advise not to play it if you don't want the experience spoiled though.

That's the good question tho, I was thinking about it by myself last time...

How the work could slow if they told they are "close" to release by the end of 2013, and still - no release at all...

Not judging or anything, we all know how times change, how you can sometimes focus more or less on projects like that, I just wonder how many ppl from the team could leave or something, that the progress went to the point like this.

I smell heresy.

Also, as previously said in the thread, Origins aims to be what SS would turn out if CT did not retool it into TFE.

Interested in playing this.
You gotta wonder if it will ever get done though, its been so long.

But, the Half Life remake finally came out, what, 8 years later?
Maybe this one will take as long.

Should be finished by the time SS4 comes out or later, probably same time when HL3 is going (if ever) to come out whether fan made or official. But I hope it comes out soon looking forward to playing it.

No news here, but I just uploaded every SSO screenshot released so far to imgur so you can look at them all in one convenient page.

Also, it has been exactly 2 years since the last SSO screenshot
